NY Times: CIA Leaked Plame's Name

The ultimate source of information identifying Leakgate accuser Valerie Plame as a CIA employee my turn out to be the CIA itself, the New York Times reported Tuesday.

Notes obtained by Special Counsel Patrick Fitzgerald identify then-CIA Director George Tenet as the person who gave up Plame's secret to the White House, with the Times reporting that Tenet tipped Vice President Dick Cheney to her identity.

However the notes - taken by Cheney's chief of staff Lewis Libby - "contain no suggestion that either Mr. Cheney or Mr. Libby knew at the time of Ms. Wilson's undercover status or that her identity was classified."

So far, Tenet has neither confirmed nor denied that he was the original source of the Plamegate leak, with the Times reporting that he was "unavailable for comment."

"But another former senior intelligence official said Mr. Tenet had been interviewed by the special prosecutor and his staff in early 2004, and never appeared before the grand jury."

Mr. Tenet has not talked since then to the prosecutors, the former official told the Times

When hubby Joe goes around the DC social circuit and brags that his wife Val works at the CIA, secrecy drops rapidly.

No crime was committed. And yet the MSM is howling for Rove's and Libby's heads. Weird.

"But another former senior intelligence official said Mr. Tenet had been interviewed by the special prosecutor and his staff in early 2004, and never appeared before the grand jury."

Some talking head remarked recently that it's not a good sign to NOT have testified before the Grand Jury - that folks at risk of indictment aren't normally called to testify. Ergo, it's probably not good for Mr. Tenet.

Whew! Do I have that right?

I don't give them credit for trying. They purport to report the news but they engage in speculation and innuendo and grasping at straws. Their credibility should be shot around here but every day somebody posts another crap article.

Does that mean Tenet will now also be eligible for a Medal of Finkdom too?

Yes. Any time you transfer classified information you must disclose that it is classified. Otherwise, the recipient will not know that the information must be protected.

Plame's employment was not classified and she was not undercover. If what the left claims is true (which it is blatantly not), that she was covert, (which she was not), then Aldrich Ames should be let out of jail because his actions led to her identity being known by the Soviets.

I am so sick of this non-story and Valerie Plame, et al. Here's what I'm willing to do to make all of this BS just go away - how about everyone in America aknowledge that we ALL leaked Valerie's name???

Fitzgerald won't live long enough to put 300 million people on a witness stand before a grand jury that will be deader than this stupid "case" if he tries.

It is long past time for this idiocy to just go away.

This is the stuff that makes most Americans ignore politics and detest politicians.

There was nothing to know here so "need to know" has no more relevence than knowing who her mother was. Most of Washington apparently knew VP worked for CIA.

Leak? What leak? People inquired and found out his Wilson's wife worked at the CIA. The fact that she wasn't a covert agent makes it a casual conversation about a wife of a liar. Last time I checked that wasn't a crime.

I fully agree with you. My point was that having her in the personal notes reinforces that argument.
