What can the Whigs run on?

Todays "Inside Politics" brings us a look into the minds of the people we are supposed to be worried about in the next two cycles. Reading thier list, you can't help but be struck by the fact that their "there" has no "there" there.

Tax crusade "When, on this past weekend's 'Inside Washington,' host Gordon Peterson recited a list of issues Democratic congressional candidates could use against Republican incumbents -- 'you've got Iraq, you've got Harriet Miers, you've got Katrina, you got Tom DeLay being indicted. You've got a lot of ammunition' -- NPR reporter Nina Totenberg jumped in to shout: 'And you've got the tax cuts!' the Media Research Center's Brent H. Baker reports at www.mrc.org. "Totenberg's been on a crusade. On the same show last month, as detailed in a September 26 CyberAlert posting, she dismissed the idea of canceling $24 billion of transportation bill earmarks, to pay for Katrina recovery, as small change and suggested that 'if you canceled the tax cuts, you'd get $225 billion.'?"

Miss Totenberg, back in early September, even blamed tax cuts for the levee breakage in New Orleans: "For years, we have cut our taxes, cut our taxes and let the infrastructure throughout the country go, and this is just the first of a number of other crumbling things that are going to happen to us."

A list of issues Democratic congressional candidates could use against Republican incumbents?

"'you've got Iraq" frenchie tried this in the last cycle and that was BEFORE the successful votes in January and October. The fact is that no matter how the Whig Party trys they can't make a failure out of this success. Where's the issue?

Harriet Miers: First, only Beltway dwellers and conservatives care about this issue. If anyone is angry about it, it will be long gone by 2006 and a google item by '08. Either she will be in or not and it will be old news, kind of Florida recount old news. Where's the issue here?

"you've got Katrina"? At the very worse only 9% of America "blamed" George Bush for anything connected with Katrina and that was the same 9% that believe he has secretly bugged their homes anyway. By 2006 the entire Gulf Coast will be rebuilt and better than ever and the only thing coming out of Katrina will be the loss of Louisiana for the Whig Party. Where's the issue here?

"you got Tom DeLay being indicted." First this will be long gone by 2006. Next people in the Beltway and few others care about this. Next DeLay is well on his way to turning this around and making this a big problem for little ronnie. Finally a recent poll showed only about 14% even know who DeLay is. Where's the issue here?

"You've got a lot of ammunition". Oh? Politics is often like a joke. If you have to explain an issue or a joke, neither one works. None of these "issues" has legs.

"NPR reporter Nina Totenberg jumped in to shout: 'And you've got the tax cuts." Please ratmedia, please get the Whigs to run on raising taxes! This one will have legs, but those "legs" will be trampling the Whigs, not the pubbies. So where are the Whig's issues?

Higher taxes, that's the ticket, that's the winning plank. More federal programs, more redistribution of wealth, more affirmative action. The commieRATS are still hoping that the ussr will make a big comeback. Nina totenberg is so beautiful that I'm thinking of leaving Mrs. Alaska. S/off

Screamer Dean is saying they're going to run on "Moral Values" without saying what those values might actually be.

Voting for them means you want the government to regulate moral values.
