The campaign to urge the withdrawal of Harriet Miers has moved to the next level. Two new groups have stepped forward: WithdrawMiers.org (http://www.withdrawmiers.org/) is a consortium of social conservative groups that will encourage members to write directly to their representatives in Congress.
Some friends of mine and I meanwhile have organized Americans for Better Justice (http://www.betterjustice.com/default.php?page_id=1) which has raised money for a national television and radio advertising campaign to urge the withdrawal of the nomination of Harriet Miers. You will be able to see our spots very shortly on the site. They will be airing this week on "Special Report with Brit Hume," "Fox and Friends," the Rush Limbaugh program, the Laura Ingraham program, among other places.

There is a very great deal at stake. The seat to which the president has nominated Harriet Miers has been the court's swing seat on a range of issues from same-sex marriage to racial gerrymandering, from religious liberty to federalism. It is too important to be shrugged off - and it is reckless to suggest (as some of my email correspondents are suggesting) that this is a job that can be done by pretty much anybody with a tablespoon of common sense. On the contrary, reversing 4 decades of bad jurisprudence will take very uncommon levels of courage, ability, integrity, and independence. Conservatives have worked too hard for too long to settle for anything less than our very best on the Supreme Court. Frum was born in Canada. He is now a U.S. citizen and, like the rest of us, entitled to free speech, even if you don't like it. And he's entitled to do all he can to defeat Bush's crony pal Miers. Frum doesn't worry about the opinion of a no-talent ass clown like yourself.
I'm not for Miers but Frum is such a drama queen, it's hard to take him seriously.

Funny how Miers supporters talk like royalists.
Frum has likely cost National Review a plethora of subscriptions due to his hyenic hysteria.
But he'll spend the money of a bunch of saps on ads which won't make one bit of difference.
I'm sure he worries all the time because you choose to refer to him as a drama queen. If you don't mind, I'd like to hear what you think a drama queen is, and why you think Frum's efforts to defeat the Miers nomination makes him one in your book.

There was a time in history when conservatives believed one should be judged on their judicial philosophy, that each candidate deserved a fair hearing and a fair up or down vote. She hasn't had either one, and you and David Frum, and those who think like you have abandoned that "creed", not me or the rest of the, "pro-Miers" group.
David Frum is making a case that the leftist group People For The American Way is a bunch of obtuse Conservatives, they're not. They're flat out Liberals.
Frum is a drama queen merely for advocating the abandonment of the Constitutional process of appointing judges.
So anti-Miers are elitists and pro-Miers are obtuse. Great debate.
You'd be supporting Miers if you held to the Conservative belief that all judges deserved fair up or down votes and hearings, but you're not. What you're position is, is nothing short of a Democrat filibuster.
I expect Miers to be strong on courage and integrity, competant but not exceptional on ability, and somewhat lacking on independence.
All in all, 3 out of four stars.
