Bottom line, Ford has been found liable for failing to properly warn the public not to recline in their seats while driving. Oh, and to not prop their feet up on the dashboard and take a nap. For some strange reason, Ford is supposed to make sure people understand that cars don't drive themselves.....
All this to the tune of $16.95 millioin.

You mean cruise control isn't like autopilot? I was planning a long trip this weekend and thought I would just set the ol' cruise then climb in the back for a snooze.
I've put the seat all the way back and taken a nap while riding in a car many times. It never once occurred to me that the car manufacturer made a seat that could be put in a position hat rendered the seat belt useless.
So did some moron fall asleep, or what?
Actually, I think that swivel seats would be very handy for playing poker with the passengers while on long trips
Isn't it obvious that if your seat is all the way back and there is a collision you will slide right under the belt?
Is the car supposed to protect you from all potential damage, or does the driver take responsibility to ensure that they don't crash into stationary ambulances?
This just reminds me of the Jury verdict against Ford for the girl that was thrown out of the passenger window of an explorer. She wasn't wearing her seatbelt and the jury decided that the window should have been able to keep her in the vehicle. I suppose we would all be satisfied with windows that didn't roll down.
Is everyone ready for their seatbelts to attach to the underside of the seat, between their legs?
Sometimes stuff happens and it is just plain bad luck.
This is the same caliber jury action that required lawn mower manufacturers to issue a warning about stopping the engine before removing the blade.:-(

This affects the entire industry! Well, look for cars to get a whole lot more uncomfortable.
We will soon be able to all tell stories to our kids about how some years ago we used to recline the seats when on dates and.......

Don't get me wrong, I blame the driver (who fell asleep). I wouldn't have voted for any damages, but I can understand how a jury got talked into it.
Because not everyone is 5' 7" tall and weighs 165 lbs.
my parents van had that feature years ago. full size conversion van, and the passenger seat and center captains chairs could all swivel. we used to play cards on the long trips.
