Jury Finds Ford Liable
LA Times ^ | 10/22/05 | Bloomberg News

Posted on 10/24/2005 12:04:25 PM PDT by CSM

Link only, per what I am interpreting as our copy write rules.

Bottom line, Ford has been found liable for failing to properly warn the public not to recline in their seats while driving. Oh, and to not prop their feet up on the dashboard and take a nap. For some strange reason, Ford is supposed to make sure people understand that cars don't drive themselves.....

All this to the tune of $16.95 millioin.

Is it a little old lady driving? No, it's Homey the gang-banger. They probably drive like that because they're worried about giving a rival member a clear shot at them. They're too stupid to realize that the door on their ghetto-mobile isn't going to stop a bullet no matter how shiny the paint is.

That is a great point! I'd be willing to get in on a "class action" suit to sue all the morons, who increase our costs for everything with a warning label. Undoubtedly, we have been supporting the idiots for years through increases production and legal costs.

The person injured was a passenger, not the driver.

"This was a tragic accident caused when the driver fell asleep at the wheel and drove into a stationary ambulance," Vokes said.

It's OK to sleep while driving, it won't be YOUR fault if you run into something.

You bought one of those, too? The one with the reversible panels in the seats?

Oh yeah! Of course, it was eight years old by the time I got it, but that's another story...

It had the beautiful dark brown vinyl on one side; with the look of hand-tooled leather, andbeautiful dark brown suede on the other. Which went perfect with the dark brown seats, trim, carpet, top...

What was it about the 70's that everything had to be friggin' brown?

I feel for anyone paralyzed in an accident, but this actually negates all feelings of sympathy. What a parasite. I hope that this woman has not yet reproduced and that she has no hopes of doing so.

I wish that this case had ended in a hung jury - as in 12 idiots hanging themselves. What a stupid verdict.

Hmmm...the steering wheel is on the wrong side in that vehicle....

Well, that is from the Tokyo auto show.

Or how about the verdict against Ford for the Bronco II which was dangerous because the driver was paralyzed in a rollover.... After he got behind the wheel drunk, didn't wear a seatbelt, and fell asleep behind the wheel (so the vehicle went off the road, ejected him and then rolled over top of him)...

Or there's the girl who was killed in a mid-80s escort that didn't have airbags, and her parents sued saying they should have been standard equipment, and she would have survived with them. They got a fat award, even though the escort was one of the few vehicles available with airbags as an option back then, and they chose not to buy them....

Or how about the lawsuit in Texas, where someone left their kid in the car out in the sun, and then sued Ford after the child baked to death, saying that there should be a standard cooling system built into the car to cool off the interior when its parked in the sun so those things don't happen..

These lawsuits are out of control, and have been for some time...

And we wonder why the domestic auto industry is circling the bowl.

As I read the article, the plaintiff was the passenger, not the driver. Have you never reclined your seat to nap, etc. while being a passenger during a long drive? The amount of the award is a different issue, but let's just say I wouldn't wish paralysis on anyone.

Reminds me of a true story my brother-in-law, a car dealer, tells. He received an irate call from Iranian brothers who had purchased an SUV. They said the cruise control was defective, because the car ran off the road while they were both in the back seat! I guess that's where all those "SUV gone wild" stories come from...

Ford had it coming for not designing a standard equipment feature into the seat and the dash,of all it's vehicles that would jab a pin into the butt or the foot of drivers who recline their seats and/or put their feet up while driving.

Why are they picking on Ford? Are the other brands already so equipped?

Yes, someone else pointed out that the injured party was the passenger. My question is, why is Ford responsible? Are auto companies supposed to design tanks that get 100 mpg and sell for $10K? How would you propose they do that?

The crash was caused by the driver's negligence, not Ford's.

Card carrying idiots, must be barred from jury duty-the survival of civilization depends on it.

Whenever I see someone who has feet on the dashboard I get a mental picture of the airbag deploying. Imagine wrapping their legs around their head. Ouch..
