Many adults in the United States believe Republican Rudy Giuliani should launch a White House bid, according to a poll by the Marist College Institute for Public Opinion. 54 per cent of respondents would like the former New York City major to run for president in 2008.
Republican Arizona senator John McCain is second on the list of prospective candidates with 52 per cent, followed by Democratic New York senator Hillary Rodham Clinton with 48 per cent, and former North Carolina senator and 2004 Democratic vice-presidential nominee John Edwards with 47 per cent.
Less than 40 per cent of respondents support bids by Massachusetts senator and 2004 Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry, and U.S. state secretary Condoleezza Rice.
Giuliani garnered national and international attention in the aftermath of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. The former New York City mayor currently heads Giuliani Partners, LLCa consulting firm.
In an Oct. 5 speech to business leaders, Giuliani opened the door for a possible White House bid, saying, "I think Ill return to politics."

I think I'll vote for Giuliani, just to tick off the anti-Miers people.
They will have screwed up the stealth anti-abortion candidate, then all their conservatives choices will be tied up until 2008 -- when either Hillary or Giuliani get to pick. Talk about shooting yourself in the foot.
And Howard Dean was the front runner for the Dems last time too. That was before the primaries.
How many times has Rudy been married?
Coulda fooled me.
This is his third. Oh by the way did you know he was a cross dresser and gay lover? (well that is going to come out in this and every Giuliani thread ya know) LOL
Pence doesn't have the national name recognition & he's just a House member.
I know a lot of FReepers dislike Rudy's views, but consider this:
Rudy will repackage himself as a social and fiscal conservative and run for President. If asked why he suddenly became pro-life after years of being pro-abortion, he'll explain that as mayor of NYC, his views were more suited to the people he represented.
If there's one thing about Rudy, it's that he can take a complex issue and explain it so succinctly and break it down in plain, everyday English that even ardent opponents will be nodding their heads in agreement.
I'm not a fan of RINOs or most of the GOP, but if Rudy's the only GOP presidential candidate in 2008 (and if he exhibits genuine conservatism) it'll probably be best to throw our support behind him.
I know Pence is your guy and it makes sense to keep dropping his name but not he wasn't even polled here. Of course being unknown at the national level is sometimes helpful as everyone can project the candidate they really want on an unknown - it worked for Carter, Clinton and probably Dubya so maybe your crystal ball will hold. Of course that's the "stealth strategy" that is being roundly trashed here lately.
As for those predicting doom if a RINO is nominated, in RINO land it should be noted that they are also predicting doom if an anti-abortion, anti-gay, "grumpy-old" "in your bedroom" conservative is nominated. The logic (and please don't shoot me as the messenger) is that soccer moms will never vote for the right-wing hard liner. Of course people will hold Reagan up as the example where they did vote for a Conservative but then Reagan had the advantage of running against Carter and then Mondale. Hopefully the Dems will be as generous to us in 08 but I wouldn't count on it - yet again.
I don't vote for pro-choice liberals. Whether they're Rudi or the Beast.
LOL!
...and not a conservative on the list.
Have no idea.

YIKES do you have your flame suit on?
Rudy Giuliani (R) 54% 40%
John McCain (D) 52% 40%
Hillary Rodham Clinton (D) 48% 49%
John Edwards (D) 47% 44%
John Kerry (D) 39% 57%
Condoleezza Rice (R) 37% 57%
uhhhhhh................
I vote "NO"
So you and all the rest of the hard liners can abstain and Hillary's minions will get her elected while you sit around because the Republican candidate doesnt represent everything you stand for. There are more issues than abortion and gay marriage.

They are trying to get us to nominate someone for whom the base will not vote. Don't fall for it.
Nah, if those people really care about being pro-abortion and stuff they're voting Democrat. They want government to be effective, efficient, and shut the hell up while doing it. Pragmatism is the way to reach them. Common sense solutions. If we really believe we have conservative solutions to problems of government, we should be able to sell them to the middle.
"So you would abstain and let Hillary win? Rudy would be much better than the alternative (Hillary) if he does turn out to be the nominee, which wont even happen IMHO"
You know, that's a question I have been wrestling with of late. There is no easy answer anymore, at least not in my mind.
If, and it's a big "if", Rudy were to get the nomination, and if Hill got the dem nomination, what would I do?
Considering the lessons I have learned lately, namely RINO's and what they have done to general morale, and the consequences of their actions, I would have to think long and hard about voting for someone simply because they have an "R" after their name.
Just as I promised myself many years ago that I would never vote for a democrat again, I have promised myself I will never vote for a RINO again.
This is a question that many of us will have to deal with sooner or later.
I remember the debate in 1992 with the pony hair guy. The guy and the question that Rush used as fodder against Liberals for a long time.
Seems Republicans also want a nanny as their President. How many time has he been married? Who gives a damn.
I want a guy who gets things done. Who will fix the mess.
Only Giuliani has a proven record of accomplishment.
Vote for a saint when everything is fixed.
