I am becoming MORE and more confident daily that our 2008 nominee will be Mike Pence-a true Reagan Conservative.

Pence doesn't have the national name recognition & he's just a House member.

I know a lot of FReepers dislike Rudy's views, but consider this:

Rudy will repackage himself as a social and fiscal conservative and run for President. If asked why he suddenly became pro-life after years of being pro-abortion, he'll explain that as mayor of NYC, his views were more suited to the people he represented.

If there's one thing about Rudy, it's that he can take a complex issue and explain it so succinctly and break it down in plain, everyday English that even ardent opponents will be nodding their heads in agreement.

I'm not a fan of RINOs or most of the GOP, but if Rudy's the only GOP presidential candidate in 2008 (and if he exhibits genuine conservatism) it'll probably be best to throw our support behind him.

"I don't vote for pro-choice liberals. Whether they're Rudi or the Beast."

Ditto.I do not vote for socialists.period.Even if I like them personally. It is better to lose one battle than to put the overall "war" in jeopardy. The conservative movement and its survival is more important than even preventing a Clinton presidency. After all, I can imagine 4 years of Hillary would wake up alot of complacent and apathetic conservatives.

There is another possibility. Rudy will say he believes abortion should be legal, but also believes it should be the decision of the state governments.

I've seen guys do that before, and I won't vote for it. They never mean it, and they never back up the hot air with action after being elected. John Kerry putting on the hunting togs to shoot a goose comes to mind. Pure BS.
