Uhhhh... the man paid billions of dollars for a 99-year lease, IIRC. Is the P.A. prepared to refund his money?

Bloomberg said it would be a good idea to remove Silverstein, who holds a 99-year lease on the twin towers site, but "nobody can figure out how to do it," the Daily News reported Sunday. Are property rights and the rule of law getting in the way here? Or am I missing something?

The Mayor is a complete POS liberal who can't be trusted.
Coleman added that the agency has a 99-year lease with Silverstein that remains intact as long as he pays the $110 million annual rent and as long as he continues to make progress with redevelopment.

"Silverstein has too much juice to Kelo."
My immediate thought was that here we have the private property holder being blasted out via 'eminent domain' ruses.

I'd love to see schools or residential buildings. I think that a 1,776-foot-high tower is idiotic.

Port Authority of New York and New Jersey spokesman Steve Coleman said the agency's charter that created the trade center does not allow residential buildings on the 16-acre site. To change the charter, "you would need a law passed by both the states of New York and New Jersey," he said. Since when does one state own real property that's in another state?

The WTC site is owned by the Port Authority, which is in part owend by New Jersey. Anyway, Bloomberg is a retard. Why does he think he knows what will be better for the site than Silverstein? Silverstein's wealth depend on getting it right. Bloomberg's doesnt. The simple fact is that central planning doesn't work, and there is no reason at all why the City should know what is best for the site.
The real answer here anyway is for the Port Authority to simply sell the site to Silverstein. There is no reason why the government should own the site.

The site has a psychological meaning now; I can't see it just being sold carte blanche to Silverstein any more than a Trump Hotel being erected on the spot of Pearl Harbor.

Port Authority of New York and New Jersey property goes from NJ to NY.

Instead of getting Silverstein out of the process, the city would be better off getting Bloomberg and Pataki out of the process.
If the progress of the reconstruction effort at Ground Zero is any indication, I predict it will be 7,000 years before New Orleans is rebuilt.

What do you mean sold to Silverstein. He OWNS the site.
You want to buy it back, go right ahead!
So Blooming-idiot thinks it's wrong to think of developing the site for profits. He wants housing, low cost no doubt, welfare offices too??????
