Police Arrest Two in Marshall County Bomb Scare
KTEN-TV Channel 10 ^ | October 22, 2005 | Staff

Following a fierce investigation, two suspects have been arrested in connection to a bomb scare in Marshall County.

After the Kingston police found two homemade bombs within blocks of each other yesterday, authorities say a total of 28 bombs were recovered.

Friday morning near the corner of Second and Chickasaw, Kingston police and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol bomb squad diffused two homemade bombs found in mailboxes.

A U.S. Postal worker noticed a yellow liquid oozing from one of the boxes and then notified authorities.

Today, police tell KTEN they found several more explosive devices at a house on the 500 block of Sterling Street in Kingston, more bombs at a residence along highway 70A and even a few others at another home in Marshall County. A number of the bombs were active and had to be diffused.

Police arrested 18 year-olds Joseph Norris and Jesse turner and say they admitted to making the bombs. The two are currently in the Marshall county jail.

The Marshall County sheriff, the U.S. Postal Service and the OHP bomb squad continue to investigate this situation.

This is the only media report I can find on this situation at the moment. I will keep searching and post the links down-thread if I find any.

I gave this particular story from my links listing last night it's own thread. I will post any follow-ups I find here (and in my links listing if they come through that way).

It's getting mighty "bomby" here in Oklahoma.

It is a little disturbing. In my mail alerts I'm also seeing a lot going on in PA - mostly high school kids there though, and threats, but no bombs.

South down I-70, close to the Texas border - halfway between OKC and Dallas it looks like. Here's a link to the map I pulled up, if you go to #7 on the distance meter on the left hand side you can see the regional view to judge distance from the main towns: Kingston, OK

Make that south on I-35, East at the exit for OK-70? Different view clears up the road signs! LOL

Yellow liquid? Nitro or what?

Mailman noticed it. Were the bombs being mailed or what?

How did the police zero in the bomb makers so quickly?

Bombs were found at three residences, but only two people arrested?

Thanks for the map. I drove thru Ardmore a couple of years ago - it's pretty country.

I cant help but ask the question in relation to the Norman incident....hopefully nothing in common.

How did the police zero in the bomb makers so quickly? Non-muslims. Notice they also identified by name too.

I have lake property near Kingston. It's a weekend vacation spot for folks in OK & Texas - Lake Texoma is about an hour & 1/2 form OKC and about the same from Dallas. Not much happening there in the off-season mostly rural area with little economic activity. It is like the MO Ozarks with fewer trees. Likely these guys were bored and stupid.

Still not finding anything in local papers I'm checking. Might not make it in till Monday as this story was filed after 8pm last night on the TV Channel.

BTW: Kingston, OK was also home to another bomb discovery back in August.

Found an earlier article at KTEN-TV Channel 10. Curious as to why there is no mention of the FBI/ATFE/JTTF investigating as these two would face federal charges for the bombs being placed in mailboxes.

2 Homemade Bombs Found In Kingston
http://www.kten.com/article.asp?id=10706

Kingston Police find two separate homemade bombs within blocks of each other. Tonight, police are putting the community on alert.

The first homemade bomb was found near the corner of 2nd and Chickasaw Road in Kingston.

Police initially thought an officer was the target, because he lived near-by.

This morning, a postal worker spotted a yellow liquid oozing from a bottle inside a mailbox.

The postal carrier called police. When they arrived, they saw white smoke coming from the bottle.

Police called the Oklahoma Highway Patrol Bomb Squad who diffused the substance.

But just when that situation was under control, A neighbor notified the police chief that he say another mailbox that was dripping in a yellow substance.

Authorities headed just a few blocks down the street and found a similar bottle and substance matching the other one.

Both bottles will be examined but authorities believe it is a homemade version of hydrochloric acid.

“Enough to take off their hands as well as acid on them and it could take your eyes and cause gross disfigurement,” says Robert Daws, OHP Bomb Technician.

“We have interviewed some witnesses. At this point in time, we are possibly working on a search warrant,” says Kingston Police Chief John Canoe.

Police Chief John Canoe says he was actually relieved that they found a second bomb because it meant that the officer was no longer a target.

He also says no one was injured.

Police are warning people tonight to check their mailboxes and look inside them before reaching in.

Suspects in this case will face federal and state charges.

Postal inspectors from Fort Worth have been called in.

Defused, anyone?

Hey, it spell-checked, so it must be correct, eh?

The so-called schools of journalism strike again.

Hydrochloric acid is used to clean pipes at meth labs, so your two stories may very well be related.

Maybe no one else takes bombs in Oklahoma seriously but I know from personal experience the Post Office does! For years it has been a pastime of country kids to blow up mail boxes. Mine was blown up and started a fire beside the road. Since we live in a heavily wooded area I called the police to report what happened after I put the fire out. You wouldn't believe the number of people, including the bomb squad and a postal inspector, who arrived at my house--and this was years before 911 and terrorists. These bombs with acid in them sound very serious and I hope those who make them are sent up for life!
