As a former editor, I have some tips. I'd recommend writing a brief (concise) letter to the editor, including something very straightforward, like one of the graphics that illustrate the memorial crescent and the Islamic one. Mail this hardcopy and then send the information via e-mail for when they will be getting the hardcopy, and be sure to include a few the best URLs for getting info (like from LGF or RCP or http://zombietime.com/flight_93_memorial_project/). Check the newspaper's schedule, to see when they publish letters and editorials, etc. Be sure to leave the tinfoil off and make reasoned, not wildly emotional, arguments. If your note has a line ending in "!!!" then perhaps you need a break before trying a rewrite. :-)
Remember, read over what you're planning to send--before sending--and better yet, have someone else check it over. Be accurate, be concise, and use proper English--like you're sending a résumé--as you have only a few seconds in front of the editor's eyes (do you know how many nutcase press releases and letters I used to get?!? You don't want to get thrown into that pile....)
Remember, you want to let the editor know something he doesn't know about yet...inform him...don't beat him over the head with what you think he should believe.
Hope this helps!
Very good advice indeed!
Thanks so much.
If everyone wrote a letter about this proposed "Crescent of Embrace" to their local papers.....the word would spread and the outcry against this abomination would be heard!
