Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee are so pleased with reports that Leakgate prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald is about to indict senior White House officials that they want him to lead an impeachment investigation into whether President Bush lied to Congress about Iraq's weapons of mass destruction.
"The CIA leak issue is only the tip of the iceberg,” House Judiciary Democrat Jerrold Nadler complains in a message posted to his web site.
In a letter asking the Justice Department to expand the scope of Fitzgerald's investigation, Nadler says: "We now have reason to believe that high crimes may have been committed at the highest level [and] wrongdoing that may have led us to war and imperiled our national security.”
If there is evidence that Bush or Cheney authorized aides to deliberately mislead lawmakers, Nadler told Congressional Quarterly: "That would be an impeachable offense.'"
The Manhattan Democrat is asking Acting Deputy Attorney General Robert McCallum to direct Fitzgerald to probe efforts by the White House to discredit critics of the Iraq war like former Ambassador Joe Wilson. Nadler wants Fitzgerald to determine whether attacks on Wilson were part of a "broader conspiracy knowingly to mislead Congress into authorizing a war."
Even before leaks from Fitzgerald's investigation indicated he planned indictments, Rep. Maurice Hinchey let slip the Democrats' plan to impeach Bush for alleged Iraq war lies.
In quotes picked up by the Ithaca Journal, Hinchey said in August: "My greatest hope is that all of these things will be revealed, they will be revealed in a very direct and legal context, and that in 2006 a Democratic majority will be elected to the House of Representatives, and in February of [2007] impeachment proceedings will begin."

Rep. Maurice Hinchey (D-N.Y.) hosted a Hill screening of the new George Clooney film “Good Night. And, Good Luck.” Tuesday night for members and staff.
Hinchey founded the Future of American Media Caucus earlier this year to challenge the media and the Bush administration’s use of it.
He said the film, which highlights Edward R. Murrow’s 1954 battle with Sen. Joe McCarthy (R-Wis.), dovetailed with the caucus’s mission because it concerns a time “when a member of the U.S. Senate sought to use fear. That’s not the first time or the last time a politician has used fear to advance his agenda.”
“We’ve been fighting the use of the media as a propaganda tool by the Bush administration,” he added.
Democrats on hand — Reps. Diane Watson (Calif.), Bill Pascrell (N.J.), Bob Etheridge (N.C.), and Jim McDermott (Wash.) among them — mostly raved about the black-and-white, documentary-style film.
Rep. Louise Slaughter (D-N.Y.) called the use of archival footage of McCarthy “a masterstroke.”
Hinchey said the Center for American Progress had sponsored another screening and put the caucus in touch with the studio, Warner Independent Pictures, which had already been interested in doing a Hill event.
And even though the film is already showing this week at the Landmark E Street Cinema, the studio was still very careful that it didn’t get into the wrong hands. Warner flew a staffer out from California yesterday with the disc. She flew back with it yesterday.
Rep. Rahm Emanuel (D-Ill.) has been in the spirit as well. On the House floor Tuesday, Emanuel ran through some of the day’s top news stores, from inflation to benefit cuts at General Motors to deaths in Iraq. He concluded by signing off, “In the spirit of Edward R. Murrow, ‘Good day, and good luck.’”

DEM CONGRESSMAN BLAMES "REPUBLICAN SPIN” FOR $161,000 IN JUNKET MONEY

"New York State Congressman Maurice Hinchey, recently under fire for “racking up a stunning $161,393 [in free travel] footed by special-interest groups,” is excusing his actions by blaming “Republican spin.” But a non-partisan group tells a different story.
Writing in the Ithaca Journal, Hinchey, claims that his trips, to such places as Rome, Shanghai and Morocco, are ethical because he does not consider the groups that footed the bills to be lobbyists:
"[A]ll of my privately funded trips abroad have been sponsored by well-known and highly regarded non-partisan, non-profit organizations that are dedicated to informing public policy.”
Therefore, Hinchey blames “Republican spin” for his reputation as “New York's king of comped travel.”
However, according to the non-partisan website, PoliticalMoneyLine, this does not, as Hinchey implies, mean that the groups are unaffiliated with lobbyists:
"There is no legal prohibition to prevent a lobbyist from serving on the board of these organizations, and in some cases lobbyists may encourage a client to contribute to the non-profit. In some cases, serving on a non-profit's board permits the lobbyist to participate in the sponsored event or travel for Members of Congress."
In defending his actions, Hinchey also fails to mention that, while all of his foreign travel is funded by “non-partisan, non-profit organizations,” his domestic travel is not.
For example, PoliticalMoneyLine reports, in December, 2003, Hinchey traveled to Naples, Florida, as guest of the American Shipbuilding Association, racking up nearly $1800, in meals and lodging in that resort community.
Hinchey closes his defense of this travel by stating he plans to travel to Ithaca soon, to hold a “community forum” and meet with Ithaca Journal editors. No word yet on which “non-partisan” group will be footing the bill.

Hinchey is very direct, but inherent in it is the full-court ends-justify-the-means strategizing so beloved by both Stalin and our Dems. The ultimate objective is to impeach Bush in Feb. 2007, and they lay out a foundation that must be built to get to that point, and make it possible. They of course have already started with Delay and Rove and whatever pseudo-scandals they can keep alive UNTIL they reach a court of law, and are proven to be "nothing". The fact is, they are already on a daily basis squeezing the potential damage out of these indictments/arrests and hoping that the mere IMAGE they've created of Delay,Rove, et. al. will stay in the public mind and prove to be enough to create a bad taste in the mouth even when the evidence or lack of it acquits everyone currently so demonized and stigmatized. I frankly have never hated the Dems more, and have never seen the partisan strategizing so naked, shameless, small, and dishonest. It's only about them, and the continuance of their party as a viable political force. It is sad what AMerican Politics has become. Can we survive the politicians?

I understand hardball politics. But this is not politics. It is destructive to the fiber of the country. The troops in the field will be confused and demoralized. These democrats are dangerous for this country. To stoop to this level for politics subceeds anything I have seen to date in politics. I have to believe this is desperation on the democrats part. This will weaken the adminstrative branch and the legislative branch. They do not care about the very institutions of government. Neither do they hold dear any ideals of America. This is despicable.

That can be done in criminal proceedings or civil proceedings. The Republicans need to file about 50 lawsuits against various dems and dem organizations. It is not in the nature of Republicans to engage this way, but its may be the only way to put the fear of God into the dems. It seems Nadlers statements constitute slander. Bring that fact issue to be resolved by the courts. Now you have the power of subpoena. You can root around into their private affairs all day long. That is what the dems do at every chance they get. The Republicans do not behave that way, because, frankly, it is obscene to do so, but what other tools are available.
Delay should file a suit against Ronnie Earl and subpoena all telephone records, travel records, spending accounts, everything they can think of to expose the bastard and his corrupt dealings. Go on the offensive. Remember Patton...."Grab 'em by the nose and kick 'em in the ass".
