Hurricane Wilma slowly drifts toward the Southeast Gulf of Mexico after relentlessly pounding Cozumel and Cancun for more than 24 hours. Early reports indicate extensive wind and flood damage to Mexico's resort-studded Mayan Riviera. Mexican officials said about 20,000 tourists were at shelters and hotels on the mainland south of Cancun and an estimated 10,000-12,000 were in Cancun itself. About 50 hotels were evacuated.
In preparation for Hurricane Wilma's anticipated Florida landfall, a Hurricane Watch and mandatory evacuation have been issued for the Florida Keys and Florida Bay. Mandatory evacuations for Marco Island and much of Naples are in effect, as well as high surf advisories and high risk of rip currents along Florida's panhandle and Big Bend coasts. Bus services are available for Monroe Co. and other counties for residents who do not have transportation. Additional storm watches for the Florida peninsula are expected later today.
The 2005 hurricane season altered the record books again today with the formation of Tropical Storm Alpha south of Hispanola. Preliminary forecasts indicate TS Alpha will not affect the U.S. mainland.

Yes, but it must be pronounced with two syllables and stressed on the first.
Did you do a complete Google Earth plot of Katrina and/or Rita vortex messages? I was thinking of doing it myself. Also, do you know if there is an RSS feed available for the vortex messages? I think I can get Google Earth to read the RSS as it is updated and save each update as a plot point.
I worked up all the NDBC moored stations for the Gulf, Caribbean, and East Coast of FL. If you'd like to have it let me know and I'll post it. I'll eventually finish all the moored stations, and then do all DART stations.
Don't know if this will help, hope so. My grandson (in the 6th grade) is going to help his granddad (my husband) build this for his science fair project. Last year he did water purification utilizing the SOLIS method and he won first place! (Uses 2L plastic soda bottles, black plastic and sun.)
LOL!
There is water up to the 3rd floor of some hotels.

Sheer devastation .. mercy mercy.
Was that Joe Bastardi?
He's been pretty predictable.
I live in Sarasota.
Watching and waiting.........
Sorry for breaking the image rule, but its a small file.
Barry heard them calling him before they were cool...
Sorry I'm not better at presentation...
"Accuweather just said on Fox that Wilma and Alpha could meet up and cause something severe in the north atlantic next week"
Accuweather seems to come up with these freakish scenarios concerning the tropics. Does it ever materialise?
Will wash them down with some milk tonight, and hopefully get some sleep before the winds start to howl. Sharing them with my fellow Florida FReepers. Yummy...
To avoid all the controvery here I should have left out who said it. And your post will surely prompt it. Yes plenty of times they are correct.
Not familiar with that one. Can you hum a few bars?
TORNADO WARNING IN PALM BEACH COUNTY NOW PER FOX UNTIL 11PM.
What's your weather there now? My son has a home there, not far from a canal. My concern is that it's an older wooden house, and I wonder how it will survive 100mph winds. Please post your weather conditions there, if possible as the next 24 hrs. ensues. Many thanks, have a plan, and keep safe.
A hurricane is coming tonight, baby
A hurricane is coming tonight
And the water and winds
Are gonna drown all your sins
A hurricane is coming
And I swear that it's true

I thought the plate in the photo looked familiar! LOL
Thanks NN. I am getting concerned about the tracks shifting more north. As is stands my area looks to get about 50mph winds from about noon to 2pm after the storm leaves Fla.! Orlando may get hurricane force gusts. It is too questionable to be a sitting duck in a field full of farmers with shot guns.
hmmmm...I think we may need some more comforting tunes here tonight.
That's what I thought I had heard. Again, I'm not surprised. It was in that western eyewall for several hours while Wilma stalled over Cozumel. That eyewall was right on the Yucatan coast for three hours or so. A double eyewall, too.
