Fox News: Possible Miers Withdrawal? WH Reaching Out to Conservative Leaders for 'Plan B'
Fox & Friends Weekend

Posted on 10/22/2005 4:11:56 AM PDT by governsleastgovernsbest

Though not giving it much more than 'rumor' treatment, on Fox & Friends Weekend it was just reported that the White House is reaching out to GOP senators as to their recommendations for 'Plan B' in the event Miers is withdrawn.

One of the F&F hosts clarifed that according to the information Fox has received, it is not WH aides who are doing the outreach directly, but conservative surrogates.

Is it necessary for you to slime F&F just because they are reporting something that you dislike?

LOL! Governs is the one who puts out the weekend threads showing Weekend Fox & Firends vapidity.

If anything he is the one who is being somewhat hypocritical, not I.

"Yeah ann coulter calling Ms. Miers "a cleaning lady" on bill maher's show is "well-reasoned"(eyes rolling)."

While inaccurate factually, Coulter was utilizing sarcasm to make a point. I would not have taken that approach in my personal opposition and neither would most conservatives. Ann is but one person.

I really wish they'd stop listening to Bill Kristol at the Fox News desk.

But is it inconceivable to you that Miers would be withdrawn?

Yes, inconceivable. It is only the sphinx conservatives who want to see Miers withdrawn.

It would only hinder the White House to not have the hearings. If she'd withdraw, then she'd also be willing to have her nomination torpedoed surruptitiously.

Bush would benefit much more from being able to nominate someone else after a contentious nomination fight that is perceived as unfair.

Sphinx conservatives? That's a bit too mysterious for me to understand!

Not at this time, she will go through the hearings, no matter the caterwalling from the right wing elite in the DC beltway.

You really, really, need to understand that there are a lot of rednecks out here in flyover country (like me) that believe that this is not a good nomination.

I'm about as far from Beltway Elite as you can possibly get, and I've supported this President through everything. But the Red States now have a whole stable of home-grown, high-octane intellects of our own. Now is the time to get them one the court - because ideas and intellect do matter, even to rednecks.

Could it be that Bush nominated an unacceptable Miers knowing full well that she would have to withdraw from contention.

I wonder if he did this to make it easier to or as they say in West Texas (grease the slides)for another candidate.

Don't underestimate George Bush and his political savvy.

So Carl Rove gets indicted and has to resign.

I believe they still have telephones that work here in Texas.

Whats to keep Rove from working as a volunteer.

CIA leak is a lot to do about nothing.

The Demagogues err Democrats have nothing to hang their hats on so any old thing will do.

Many have floated that theory, but it is entirely implausible to me. I find it inconceivable that W would have intentionally planned to humiliate a good friend and fractured his own base.

Am I the only person who heard Tony Snow mention that Janice Brown many of the others we conservatives prefer wrote President Bush that they did not want to be considered for the supereme court nomination because they didn't want go through all the mud that the Democrats would put them through?

Looking at the "leading lights of conservatism" who oppose this, they have all acted badly. Fund has planted stories, Frum has questioned not her qualifications but her intelligence (let us not forget that Miers graduated with an undergrad degree in math -- better than Harvard Law any day of the week), Coulter has been . . . Coulter, Kristol has reinforced his usual anti-Bush stance and when anyone criticizes the behavior of these, Rush gets indignant and thinks everyone's talking about him. Buchanan has actually been the most reasonable -- for Buchanan.

The furor over the first lady's answering of a vague leading question by Matt Lauer was just disgusting. Each one of these people acted as if she were an administration official issuing a press release about them individually.

Roberts isn't an originalist.

Roberts will uphold all the bad liberal precedent. He will be conservative on cases that are coming before the court for the first time. But Schumer and Reid let Roberts through because he isn't a strict constructionist.

There's a prominent feature that the sphinx is missing.

Undoubtedly it was done to spite something else.
