Two white men were being questioned Friday after an unidentified man claimed to have a suspicious device in his car close to the U.S. Capitol.

Police cordoned off several streets near where the gray 2005 Chevy Impala was parked on the corner of First Street and Constitution Ave., N.W. That's very close to the Senate offices.

Brian Doyle, a spokesman for the Department of Homeland Security, said hazardous materials teams had been dispatched to the site. "We don't know if it's an explosive device," he said.

There were no immediate details available on how the suspicious vehicle came to the attention of police. The Capitol had not been evacuated one hour and 20 minutes after the incident was first reported.
