Two Norman men face felony charges after allegedly breaking into a tunnel under the University of Oklahoma campus to get into a building on the South Oval.
Christopher Thomas Boyce, 24, and James Kent Eldridge, 20, were charged Thursday in Cleveland County District Court with conspiracy to commit burglary and second-degree burglary.
According to an affidavit, a witness saw Boyce and Eldridge entering an underground tunnel system by cutting the locks to a manhole cover in the 1100 block of Asp Avenue. Police said the pair then opened a perimeter door and entered Richards Hall, where they removed a "stoppered glass vial."
Welcome to FreeRepublic! (O:
We kinda figured that that was the case here after finding Boyce's writings and such that were available online. We're currently discussing this case over on this new thread that contains OU Daily's article: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1508704/posts
Rte66 has listed links for the court docs available online in this case. Seems Scooby Axson (OU REPORTER) "found" information not available in the affadavit it supposedly came from.
Something is definitely not right in all of this...
Wonder if he is a 'Urban Explorer'?

I found several 'lefists' college students discussing breaking into college 'no go' zones at LABS and even discussing how to handle the 'odd case of running into janitors in the building'!! Go check it out!!
That's disturbing to say the least... Thanks for the links.
Thanks for checking it out. I had forgotten about the whole thing until I read this latest wierd news from OU!! What is disturbing is that the Feds never took it seriously when I wrote them and provided the link over a year ago!! Oddly enough, I found the site doing a google search looking for a pic of a nuclear blast to photoshop as a gag on another conservative site. These people had maps of underground tunnels online to stadiums, nuclear power plants, chemical plants, research labs..the whole works!!
What's funny is that the FBI and DHS always say "call with tips" but anyone who I've talked to that have actually done so have all been treated with indifference, and sometimes outright condemnation. Sad, but true... You mentioned sending the info to the military - you might try that, perhaps THEY could get the FBI to take it seriously...
Did we lose you guys?
BTTT!
They didn't vandalize anything, let animals out, and it's unclear if the vial was stolen or taken in with them in order to fill it with their quarry. The facebook profile on thefacebook.com is deleted. 17 years is stiff.
Doubt these guys are "explorers". Why would they have a vial. Jim likes to rock climb, tune cars, dumpster dive, party, but probably not explore underground using a bolt cutter to break in. The chance that they were there just for fun is very slim, considering the risk involved.
BIG INFO: I just recalled that Jim is terrified of cops. I've gone drifting with him. He'll do a drift in a parking lot, then go on to another one. He's been caught by cops before and he's not big into getting into trouble. There's no way he was doing this for fun, he must have been doing it for some noble cause, or because he badly needed something inside that building.

Thanks for the extra info. I'm old -- what is drifting? Like snowdrifts? Don't laugh at me!
You mongol. Ok, sorry. It's going really fast in a parking lot, downshifting and turning really hard and throwing the handbrake as you turn, the back end slides out, then you upshift and drive out of it as you correct.
OK--thanks, I never would've thought of that, lol. So, it's called that because it's *like* sliding into a snowdrift?
I mean, it sounds like a cousin to doing "doughnuts" on an icy parking lot. Now, that's something I understand. I don't live where we have ice anymore, but I did in Norman and OKC! Thanks for the explanation. I'll know it when I see it and have to get my walker and get to the phone to call the cops. (Not.)
And it's semi-illegal?
Oh, another thing ... do you think Chris was the leader of this little project, from what you know of the two?
You don't need to have a slippery surface to drift if your car has real wheel drive, the power of the drivetrain pushes the back end out.
Chris is probably the leader since he's older and possibly more politically active, I never knew Jim to be much of anything but a slacker.
OK--I get it, not slippery - but it *feels* like it, right? That's the rush? Like losing control?
Have you heard anyone talking about this little burglary "project" at all? I just wondered what others might think it was all about--especially the vial. Any more ideas?
