"I believe he was just stating the obvious."
If he is charging me with being a right winger, I proudly accept that moniker.

BLAKEMAN: Well, don't take it personally. All I'm saying is that the critics have said that the president should have sought more advice and consent of them. And quite frankly, had the president done that, those-those people would have deep-sixed the nomination of Harriet before the president had an opportunity to nominate her.
No kidding. If Bush would have consulted with anyone else, then Miers would have never been the nomination. It appears Blakeman is saying that Bush was determined to nominate Miers regardless of what anyone else or the evidence had to say. Wow, talk about lending credibility to the critics of the war in Iraq.
Bush is really looking to tear down his whole operation over this idiotic appointment.

Bush is just likely warming up for the nomination of Gonzalez. Throwing some high heat.

They've been playing the "far right" card for a while now. Variants: "fringer," "reactionary," "extreme right," etc. They're trying to re-define "conservatism," in effect, as "fidelity to Bush and his Supreme Will." Insisting on fidelity to traditional conservative values and principles is, like, SO-O-O-O '80's, y'know....

I confess, most sincerely, finally, and totally, that I am far out and too far right.
I am a "traitor" for not blindly supporting our President Bush's decision to nominate her.
I am a "traitor" and too far right for wondering if she were the BEST POSSIBLE CHOICE when other more qualified individuals were available. Such a traitor I am.

Charged with being a right-winger? What year is this? Did I step back in time to San Francisco, 1969, here?

Holy smokes!! That comports with another thread here today that said Bush kept the decision to an inner circle, mainly himself and Laura. No wonder Bush didn't want to consult Rove and Chaney. He didn't want negative feedback that would diss Laura's pick. Oh my God.

ROTFLMAO!!! I had to wipe the tears from my eyes before posting after going from Stellar's post #16 to Cautor's #24 and then MNJohnnie is next up with #25, then on down to VRWC For Truth's #28 of the Titanic sinking.
Too funny...
And Mr. Moderator, who's messing around with certain keywords here?
Dare I ask, the answer could send me laughing back to the tissue box!

Ya know something for some reason I can picture you and the rest of the diehard name calling anti-Miers group doing a conehead thing looking up as the three moons joining and shaking your coneheads in ecstacy, in unison, whilst calling everybody else Bots, its kind of ironic.

Here's the funny part, and the key to unlocking the intellectual vacuity of these charges against conservatives: ... Apply a modest amount of intellect ;-)
Sexist? See Janice ROgers Brown, Priscilla Owen, etc.
Elitist? Is that a euphemism for "Don't check her work?"
Religious Bigot? We don't want faith leaking over to SCOTUS opinions
Far right & cynic, well, okay -- but the insulter still missed 3 of 5. Plus, "far right" is a traditionalist, and that is what the President promised for SCOTUS Justices. It should be a good thing, yes? And given that the support the WH has given the the nominee consists in part in insulting people who were WH supporters the day before, well, it stands to rreason a bit of cynicism would be generated.
The GOP and WH seem determined to sever the "far right" from the party. They aren't being subtle about it either. At least GWB has withheld making the insults personally - gotta admire his restraint, I bet he really wants to lash out.
Hmmm. Maybe he has a FR account. Wonder which one?
