Miers Critics "Far Right," Says Miers's Ex-White House Officemate

TRANSCRIPT FROM TUCKER CARLSON SHOW:

Adding to the sexism, elitism, faith, and threat cards in the White House arsenal, comes the "far right" card.

Speaking in support of Harriet Miers on Tucker Carlson's MSNBC show last night was Brad Blakeman, described by Carlson as "a former deputy assistant to President Bush [who] shared an office with Harriet Miers for three years."

I'm posting the entire transcript of the Blakeman interview below. Go to the parts in bold to see the "far right" business. CARLSON: ...today one of the many questions regarding Harriet Miers has been answered, in part, anyway, in a questionnaire Miers filled out while running for the Dallas city council in 1989. She clearly indicated, or seemed to, that she's opposed to abortion, unless the mother's life was in danger.

Some conservatives are not satisfied with that, but one who appears to be, joins us now from Washington. He is Brad Blakeman. He's a former deputy assistant to President Bush. He shared an office with Harriet Miers for three years.

Mr. Blakeman, thanks for coming on. [SNIP]

BLAKEMAN: No. I think, Tucker, the president could have put forth Mother Teresa, and there were some on the far right that said, "Well, you know, she's not really religious enough for me."

CARLSON: That's totally not true. You know that that's not true.

BLAKEMAN: No, it is true. The fact of the matter is, the far right...

CARLSON: Hold on. Wait. Hold on. Slow down.

BLAKEMAN: The far right thinks that...

I regard "far right" as a badge of honour. Yes, I'm far to the right. I live with the joy of knowing that my principles are unbending.

Ive (sic) noticed that [the] "far right" is now spit (?) out with the same hatred as is normal for [from?] the DU.

Hmmm, that's funny, I was noticing the same of those posting on FR in support of Miers towards those opposed to her nomination.

You mean the one that is on after 11pm EST? The one that used to be on at 9pm? Bowtie got a demotion. Easy to see why.

Don't correct me. I know exactly what I said. It's pathetic pieces of crap like you that are the problem.

well it's good to see the miers foot soldiers have adopted nearly all the tactics of the left as they bash conservatives

Okay, I was on the fence at first, but the more this goes on, the more I am opposed. I've voted by absentee ballot twice for Bush and have supported him. But it's very insulting to be labeled by the administration as a fringe kook for having doubts about this nominee.

One of the things I appreciated about Roberts (aside from his brilliance) was his obvious love of the law and respect for the nation's highest court. Pardon me if my shared respect for the Supreme Court makes me want the best people there.

And by the way, one of the great things about the U.S. is the fact that the people do have a say (via their elected representatives) in who sits on this court. In Canada, the prime minister can nominate anyone he wants and there is nothing the people can do about it.

Nothing short of blind support is acceptable.

Heck, you can love President Bush and still have misgivings about Harriet Miers as an SC Justice

Exactly.

Apparently so, and it's pretty disappointing.

I wish the President would read a few FR threads. It would do him some good.

It almost sounds like the Governor General.

Except, without the PM in place of the Queen.

President Bush certainly isn't on the far-right, AKA conservative.

So of course this elitist, cronyistic White House would consider that a perjorative.

Mr. Bush, I take back every vote I gave you and every nice thing I ever said about you.

Please! Keep a lid on it! He may be listening.
