A Political Science Professor at the University of Maryland, Prof. Ronald Walters, recently published a book suggesting that American conservatism is heavily influenced by what he calls "White Nationalism": http://wsupress.wayne.edu/africana/afrlabor/walterswn.htm
The Professor is reputed to be a leftist, and he doesn't like conservatives. But how does one explain the influence that some White nationalists such as Pat Buchanan, Peter Brimelow, Jared Taylor and the late Sam Francis have had on the conservative movement?
Both conservatives and white nationalists want to preserve Western civilization. But White Nationalists argue that Western civilization cannot exist without whites. Do most conservatives really believe that race is irrelevant in the preservation of Western civilization?
Yes.
The professor is a racist. End of story.
FR itself has plenty of black and Hispanic conservatives.
Define white nationalists. Would they be like the reverse of the Black Caucus or Nation of Islam or something like that?
Neo-conservative here. No, race has nothing whatsoever to do with Western Civilization. When we say we want to preserve "Western Civilization" heritage, values, etc. We mean Judeo/Christian philosophy of life. What that means is personal responsibility, freedom, self-reliance, rule of law, etc.
Sure, we have some wackos that share some of the same values. But the opposite side does as well.
You've been around FR for a couple of years, and you have an interesting posting history. What kind of conservative do you consider yourself to be? It seems to me that if you were a conservative yourself, you wouldn't have to ask this question.
Although I do have to admit I've toyed with the idea of being an Ultramarine Nationalist.
How does one explain the influence that the Unibomber, Louis Farrakah or communist historian Howard Zinn have had on the liberal movement?
What is the difference between liberals and black nationalists? Your question is based on false premises and is not worth responding to. It is part of the Dem propaganda effort to link the GOP and conservatives to racism.
First and foremost and immediate: race.
I wonder what the "professor" thinks of Black Nationalism and is it a "conservative" movement? (hehe)
There is an implication here that liberals do not want to preserve western civilization. While their ridiculous political ideas help the cause of ending western civiliation, most liberals do not really want that, or they certainly won't like it if it occurs. Fallacy number 1.
Fallacy 2: Who in the conservative movement ever said that white people are necessary to preserve western civilization? Western civilzation is simply a way of life and law rooted in roman and greek history....are romans considered to be white or caucasion?
This is just a not so clever ploy to associate conservatism with racism...pretty pathetic when you cosider all the black, hispanic, and asian conservatives out there. The leftist professor has got his brain in his arse...as is typical of leftists....
What does skin color have to do with ideas and beliefs?
"White Nationalists" = NAZI, KKK, Aryan Nation.
The professor in this story has obviously bought into and is now spewing the "GOP = NAZI" equation every freak since the late 60's holds as gospel.
They could'nt be more wrong if they were trying.
They hate the Jews, Blacks, and everybody not Christian.
I don't.
What is the difference between socialists, communists and Nazis? Not a whole lot, those philosophies all view people according the their perceived membership in a designated group.
Conservatives, OTOH, are much more likely to view people as individuals.
Conservatives are influenced by American Nationalism. Liberals are influenced by Socialist Internationalism.
