Bush Pushes for Guest Worker Plan

President Bush sought support Tuesday for his guest worker plan for foreigners, hoping to win over skeptical conservatives with a pledge to clamp down on illegal immigration — one of a growing number of issues causing friction between the White House and fellow Republicans.

"As we improve and expand our efforts to secure our borders, we must also recognize that that enforcement cannot work unless it is part of a larger comprehensive immigration reform program," Bush said. "If an employer has a job that no American is willing to take, we need to find a way to fill that demand by matching willing employers with willing workers from foreign countries on a temporary and legal basis."

Bullkennedy! I will sit my butt at home and WATCH the dems win in '08. I have no problem with taking the Repubs out to the proverbial woodshed for a few years. It might hurt in the short term, but it would be a lesson no supposedly conservative Repub would soon forget. By 2012 we'd have a leaner, meaner more conservative Party ready to crack down on the border and (for once) enforce the damned law!

Yep, agree wholeheartedly. I will either sit back and watch or vote Constitution Party. There are some Republican's that are good. Lots of diehard Republican's hate the thought of a third party vote but that's too bad, they need to start listening to the American people or we will go elsewhere.

Agree. The government has gone along with this so long, I hate to say it, but there may be no way out. All for the love of money, votes and power.

I know a lot of you drink the Bush kool aide but damn! Who is advising the President? He just might make history by managing to piss off every single group in the country at this rate.
What next George, raising taxes??
We have like a million displaced poor people, a city and region in ruins, runaway spending, the war on terror, inflation rising, high gas prices, etc..
And he wants to essentially give amnesty to foreign citizens who broke the law and entered America illegally? The past month or so has just shocked me at the Presidents aloofness from the common man. Who is running this country?

Legal immigrants to the United States are not "subsidized" for anyones profit but their own.

In fact legal immigrant labor makes capital accumulation possible, doing nothing but good for the Republic and the new citizen alike. Welcome them, as they are soon to be as "American" as you or me.

It is also my belief that illegal immigrant labor makes capital accumulation difficult for the law abiding businessman and does nothing but economic harm to the Republic.

Who exactly is subsidizing them for med benefits, taxes etc? Who is paying?

Why bother? Is the underground economy suffering or something?

"Too bad we can't deport Chertoff and Bush from Washington."

We can deport the Congressmen and Senators who would vote for this.

We have people on welfare because they are too lazy and get fed anyway, who could be taking these jobs. Look at New Orleans, those on welfare will stay on welfare as illegals get paid to clean up the city.

Stop! You guys are cracking me up! I just have this vision in my head of them opening the envelopes "what are these things" "why do we keep getting these" "where are they coming from"

What part of HELL NO, does the man I contributed, walked my precinct and voted for not understand?

I think a number of us are learning that the man to whom we contributed, for whom we worked, and for whom we voted, is not the man we thought he was.

The question is - were we misled, were we just wrong, or has he changed?
