Folks, rememeber Tradesports.com ?
That site was widely monitored in the presidential elections to gauge the futures market's view of who would be the next president.
Well, at Tradesports, contracts are being traded which allows you to bet whether Rove or Libby will be indicted by Dec 31, 2005.
As of this post time, Libby is at a 66% probablility of indictment; Rove is at 60%. Although I cannot find the contract specifications, I assume a plea bargain counts as an indictment.
However, we don't have to wait till end of this year for this to occur. A decision should be made by end of this month.
TIME MAGAZINE REPORTS THUSLY :
-----------------------------
"Special counsel Patrick Fitzgerald appears to be seriously weighing a perjury charge for Rove's failure to tell grand jurors that he talked to TIME correspondent Matthew Cooper about Plame, according to a person close to Rove. Rove corrected himself in a later grand jury session. If charged with perjury, he will maintain he simply didn't recall the conversation with Cooper and told Fitzgerald as soon as he did."
----------------------------
It seems that the markets are betting that Fitzerald is after big game.
It should be Wilson........... Plame ............... and Hillary.
Not as much as you'd think. The spreads or margins are off the charts on these types of plays. They are mainly for entertainment purposes.
LOL!
He could join his buddy in Texas to save money at their trial. Two peas in a pod I'm afraid although I think Fitz is by far the more dangerous.
Not necessarily. DeLay was offered a plea bargain deal (to a misdemeanor) which he refused. He was then indicted on the felony charge.
I highly doubt it, too. In fact I just don't believe it.
Cooper called Rove at the end of the day, purportedly on another topic, as Rove was preparing to go on vacation. That would be an easy thing to forget. Plus, that doesn't square with my recollection of events - didn't Rove voluntarily produce a phone log regarding the call, which supported his version of events?
Yes, Rove had written an email account of the phone call and sent it to Hadley. In it Rove detailed how Cooper called to discuss welfare reform then sprang the Wilson story on him. Interestingly, Cooper is the one who evidently forgot the pretext for the call until Rove's email "refreshed his memory".
Reference to the "Perjury" an email I receieved contained this tidbit from Title 18 > Part I > Chapter 79 > § 1623 § 1623. False declarations before grand jury or court:
"In any prosecution under this section, the falsity of a declaration set forth in the indictment or information shall be established sufficient for conviction by proof that the defendant while under oath made irreconcilably contradictory declarations material to the point in question in any proceeding before or ancillary to any court or grand jury. It shall be a defense to an indictment or information made pursuant to the first sentence of this subsection that the defendant at the time he made each declaration believed the declaration was true.
(d) Where, in the same continuous court or grand jury proceeding in which a declaration is made, the person making the declaration admits such declaration to be false, such admission shall bar prosecution under this section if, at the time the admission is made, the declaration has not substantially affected the proceeding, or it has not become manifest that such falsity has been or will be exposed.
Again, by what we know, charging either Rove or Libby with this charge would be nonsense.
Yes I think he'll indict on flimsy evidence. I think the repeated leaks tell a similar story and his direction has been consistent throughout. Not a single leak in any other direction other than us reading tea leaves and wishful thinking. Leaks are often wrong but the trend is there nevertheless and this GJ and Prosecutors office have been leaking on a regular basis and when added to the witness accounts he's going after the admin. I guess it's who's definition of flimsy we're going to use. I'm certain that all of us will think it's beyond flimsy short of a huge news break that our guys are dumber than humanly possible. I hold out hope that there will be zero indictments and all we have to endure is more of the same from the MSM.
Which spy is that?
The Marine officer - who was also in that position in the Gore years of being VP. He was evidently caught passing secret information to terrorists in the Philippines.
The Right Wing MSM is busy trashing Harriet Miers.
Except for Cliff Kinkaid.
Oh, yeah; I completely forgot about him. Was he in the office when this all happened?
BTW, did you see the arbitrage on the Rove bet between tradesports and sportsbook? Some easy money there, but, sadly, the contracts haven't been all that active.
Leaking GrandJury testimony is a crime.
Hmmmm?? That's a good question! I thought he was just arrested or charged recently - so I'm not sure whether he was there during the Wilson mess or not.
Still, a profit is a profit...heh heh heh.
THIS MEANS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. You might as well tell us that "everyone at lunch thinks Rove will get indicted!" It has absolutely no bearing on what will happen.
