An international group of scientists have filed a "friend of the court" brief with federal Judge John E. Jones III advising him that "the identification of intelligent causes is a well-established scientific practice" and asking him to allow "the freedom of scientists to pursue scientific evidence wherever it may lead."
Jones is presiding over the Dover intelligent design trial.
The 24-page brief carrying the names of 85 scientists in fields including chemistry, molecular biology, mathematics, neurological surgery and environmental science states "the definition of science and the boundaries of science should be left to scientists to debate."
"Any (court) ruling that depends upon an outdated or inaccurate definition of science or which attempts to define the boundaries of science could hinder scientific progress," the brief states in asking Jones to find in favor of the Dover Area School Board.
Thanks for the ping.

Interesting choice of words. :)
Are all of those posters still banned? If so, do you know why?
Everyone of them. Nearly all ran afoul of a Mod at one time or another. One left voluntarily (we hope he'll be back).
***************
Did they run afoul on evolution/ID/creationist threads?
check later
Some did. A few went by the boards on other types of threads.
You better start to inform yourself what the Holy Catholic Church teachs.
Exactly. There is no contradiction in saying that life was created by God and that it evolved as Darwin said. The Catholic Church has acknowledged that, and if they ´ve done so, why shouldn´t I do so?
It's too bad, however it happened. The discussions on these crevo/id threads can be heated. The same is true for many other threads.

Discussion isn't always the goal of some posters. Even long time members of FR can be more interested in baiting and insulting others than in the subject at hand. Fortunately, I can always step away from my computer.
I usually regret permanent banning of FReepers who have been on board for years, however.
Most of the guys in the black box were fun to battle. I miss them as much as I miss the guys I fought side-by-side with.
Agreed.
Your observations then are anecdotal, not factual. you cannot state as a fact that more or fewer scientists believe this that or the other. You have merely you own observations.
"Many people were astounded that George Bush won election because nobody they knew voted for him."
(Note: Your observations are certainly "facts" but they do not support extrapolation to the entire set of scientists. Even if most scientists supported teaching creationism, or not, their opinions are highly political. They would rarely say anything that would jeopardize their funding, as a class.)
My comment was specific to judges.
As for scientists, individual biases do come into play with many of them. I think it would be fair to say that this is especially true amongst evolutionists, which is hardly a separate branch of science; inless you can tell me about a cillege where you can get a degree in evolution.
The 'Holy' Catholic Church and Roman Catholic Church are not the same; and I am not a member of the Roman Catholic Church.
Sorry, when I google "Holy Catholic Church" the results link to the Holy See. And, I´m also not a member of the Catholic Church, but the point is, that even that body, which has opposed science for centuries, has acknowledged truths. And one truth is, that man evolved from the ape. Another is, that the earth is at least 4 billion years old. Face it or deny it. But in the latter case, don´t expect me to take you serious.
Because English isn't my first language. My point is that it could happen, it just isn't a simple or likely explanation.
