World-Wide Aircraft Carriers Site Announced by Freeper Jeff Head
World-Wide Aircraft Carriers ^ | 16 October 2005 | Jeff Head

Posted on 10/16/2005 10:41:17 AM PDT by Jeff Head

In the last months there has been a lot of interest expressed on FR about aircraft carriers. I have found that there is a lot of interest all over the net.

So, I created a web site about all of the World's Aircraft Carriers. It will surprise you how many countries operate at least one...and also how many are building large-deck Amphibious Assault ships.

Of course, no one holds a candle at this time to America's capabilities in this regard.

Please enjoy, and let me know what you think. I hope it serves as a resource for naval enthusiasts everywhere. Just click on the banner below and take a look:

Click on the "LARGE DECK AMPHIBS" link on the right side and beneath the banner. You'll find the Wasps and the Tarawas there with other nations vessels of similar (but much smaller) design.

Thanks. If you come across any info, I have always had interest in the costs/benefits of Aircraft carriers, and thus the decision by some nations to employ them. For example, is it really worthwhile for Brazil to operate a carrier? Should the UK have decomissioned the Ark Royal and gone forward only with the SVTOL carriers?

Wow, cool! How about an additional page/links with historical carriers as well, especially the WWII carriers (Allies and Axis)?

Excellent site, I checked for the Osumi and Dokdo class, you had them both. Again, outstanding site, thanks!

Great info and looks good, but I would clean up the jagged type. It would instantly look really professional.

The strategic, political, and preventive benefits are difficult to put a dollar sum to...until you fight a war, or lose some strategic resources or access because you didn't have them.

The British are going to build two large deck carriers to replace their VTOL carriers in the 20-teens.

I like the site! I'll post to this thread a cool rendering of our next generation of carriers as it turns on a dime. (Artist's rendering)

That's a great idea...and a lot of work for a major addition. I maxed my free time out on this (have to work 40 hours a week) but will certainly consider it for the future.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Thanks...another surprise is the French Mistral. Take a look at that one. It's bigger than the Dokbo.

Thanks...I will work on that in the banner I presume. I have a very high res screen and it comes across well on mine...but can see how it could stand some improvement.

Amen! In World War II particulalrly, but also the current CVN-65. That WW II ship should NEVER have been scrapped IMHO. The Enterprise name has served ably clear back to the Revolutionary War.

Nope...it's listed individually under the Nimitz Class, to which it belongs. Click on the Nimitz and you will find a link there to its home page.
