Extra batteries

First-aid kit: gauze, bandages, scissors, tape, disinfectants, antiseptics, aspirin and nonprescription medicine

First-aid handbook

Plastic garbage bags

Prescription medicine

Nonperishable food for three days: dried fruit; nonfat dry milk; canned tuna, stew or beans; canned fruit juice; nuts; graham crackers; baby food and pet food

You know better than to use a silly headline like this. It is a courtesy to use a paranthetical comment to elaborate on the subject matter.

That's packing light. I have a porta potty, am/fm solar/dynamo powered radio, 25 gallons of water, MRE's and food for a month, glock 8, mossberg 12 guage, 4-5 flashlights, extra batteries, first aid kit, glow sticks, signaling whistle, compass, oil burning lamps, survival knife, solar blankets, parkas, gloves, tools to turn of utilities, prybar, and enough duct tape and 3m plastic sheeting to cover window in the house.

And I live alone.. My mom and brother have the same setup, and I still feel like I am not as prepared as I could be...

Three gallons of agua might not cut it, if the aqueducts break

5 gallons per person/per day is better for planning purposes. It will cover drinking, cooking, and personal hygiene. I would also plan for more than just three days of food.
