If George Clooneys Good Night, and Good Luck is the best shot the left can unload on Joe McCarthy these days, the famous Red hunter is well on his way to a thorough rehabilitation. Ann Coulter has already begun the process in Treason and Stan Evans much anticipated bookdue out next yearis likely to boost the late Wisconsin senators stock even further.
The movie is really about CBSs star journalist, Edward R. Murrow (played by David Strathairn), and how he went after McCarthy, who is featured only in film footage from the archives. As Clooney (and most historians) would have it, the senator was a vicious, unscrupulous bully who ruined the lives of scores of innocent people by labeling them Reds. So where are the bloody corpses in Clooneys movie? Theyre totally missing. In fact, Clooneywho directed and helped write the moviedoesnt show a single person who was done in by the senators supposedly reckless charges. Not one!

tailgunner bump!
The commercials alone make it look like a revisionist piece.
Here its a bomb. Hope a lot of less than good people lost a lot of money on that "film".
I think there was a discussion of this here a couple weeks ago. Looney Clooney makes it look like Murrow and his "band of bothers" were on the cutting edge of this story when, if fact, just the opposite is true. History tells us that CBS was so late into the fray that Murrow himself was upset by the delays.
Of course, we can't let reality get in the way of a good bashing of the right by Holly-weird, now, can we??? Thanks, but this a mock-umentary that I will pass on...
I heard its filled with lots of blatent re-writing of history. In the film, its made too look like Edward R. Murrow is a one man wrecking crew who takes out McCarthy.
Facts show that Murrow was actually really late to the game and really wasn't interested in McCarthy, but when the press started sensationalizing the events, he jumped on the bandwagon right near the end.
I heard Clooney mortgaged his hollyweird mansion to pay for this movie to be made. I personally hope it bombs and he gets financially wiped out the same way Drew Barrymore did with Charlies Angels 2.
When I heard about, I knew it would be total McCarthy revisionism again, so I knew it would be a stinking pile of cra**.
And what about the Verona intercepts?
McCarthy was vindicated with the Venona papers. He was right about Soviet spies working for the Feds!
LOL at the graphic.
The left loves to make every event fit a pattern -- Iraq must match Vietnam; Rove must fit McCarthy.
Sounds like the movie has all the earmarks of vindicating the viciousness of CBS. Wonder if CBS bankrolled the movie? After kookie Clooney's recent remarks, I'm not interested in spending my hard earn dollars to help make this dweeb a box office hit, which he so desperately needs.
LOL. Where's the graphic from? It's great.
I just noticed the newspaper ads for this film....stars & stripes in the color of RED!
That's part of poor George's problem. What has always upset him is the blacklisting of the Hollywood Ten. Only problem is, McCarthy had nothing to do with that, they were subpoenaed by the House Un-American Activities Committee, where they refused to admit or deny they were members of the Communist Party.
