LOS ANGELES - The 24-year-old son of O.J. Simpson defense attorney Robert Shapiro died at a hospital after being found unconscious, and the coroner's office said he had tested positive for amphetamines.
Brent Shapiro, a University of Southern California graduate who had just enrolled in law school, died Monday. He had been found unconscious the morning before.
Officials at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center Hospital told the coroner's office that Shapiro had tested positive for the drug, said Lt. David Smith, a coroner's office spokesman.
"It's being considered an accidental death," he said.
An official ruling on cause of death will be made after toxicology results come back in eight to 10 weeks, Smith said.
Robert Shapiro and his office declined to comment. He was a key member of the "dream team" that successfully defended Simpson against charges that he murdered his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman in 1994.
And the circle goes round and round.
I wouldn't wish this on anyone. My heart goes out to him and his family. He will now have an understanding of the Goldman's loss. I believe he and the other attorneys knew OJ was guilty and let him get away with murder. He will now see what it is like to walk in the shoes of a parent who tragically lose a son at a young age. May God comfort them in their loss as well.
The fame and money is not all that helpful is it?
"and the coroner's office said he had tested positive for amphetamines. "
He probably had a fit, and then his heart just quit... :)
Tasteless.
OJ next? We can hope...
That's cold.
A young man with his whole life in front of him died.
Prayers for the young man and his family. With Johnny Cochran's death, and the death of O.J.'s friend who was by his side (with the white streak in his hair...can't remember his name), bad Karma in action.
Not quite. Ron Goldman was a healthy young man, who was brutally murdered, by a killer who walked away a free man. It's a whole other level of pain, I would imagine. But still....karma and all that.
Condolences to the family.
"As Cochran might say, every dog has his day..."
An evil, corrupt father was a horrible role model. Proof that great wealth does not buy happiness.
Robert Kardashian, the one who looked genuinely disappointed with the verdict. I think he had a few scruples, anyway.
The guy was a junkie and OD'd like Elvis. I don't think karma had anything to do with it.
Nothing in the article indicates he was a junkie.
I't wouldnt be cold if SHAPIRO had come clean and perhaps distanced himself from OJ way back.
No one would even know who Shapiro is.
BAD KARMA is going to follow this group for a long long time.
Kardashian, after the verdict, seems to be thinking, "this is nuts." Cochran of course, was jubilant. He got the brother off.
