LOS ANGELES Police say a University of Southern California student has been arrested for investigation of murder in the death of a newborn boy whose body was found behind a restaurant near the campus.

L-A-P-D Assistant Chief Jim McDonnell says 21-year-old Holly Ashcraft was booked into county jail. She's being held on one (m) million dollars bail.

L-A-P-D Officer Jason Lee says Ashcraft is alleged to be the mother of the baby.

Police found the body early Monday behind the popular restaurant after receiving an anonymous 9-1-1 call from a man who said he found it in a box next a trash bin.

Police later released the 9-1-1 call in hope of identifying the caller. Officials say a member of the public recognized the voice and convinced the man to call police.

In California? An arrest for a slightly late partial birth abortion? Whoa.

Under a law approved by the Legislature and signed by then-Gov. Gray Davis in 2001, an unwanted newborn can be turned over to someone in authority at a hospital or a fire station within 72 hours of delivery without the parent being subject to prosecution.

To do otherwise is tantamount to murder. So many would have offered to love and care for this little one. God rest his soul.

I pity Holly. She was ignorant of the CA laws that allow a person to drop off a baby at a firestation, Catholic Church, Mother Teresa house, etc., without questioning and anonymously. Now she is stuck with (1) a huge bail, (2) disappointed parents, (3) a crushed g.p.a., (4) no social life, (5) a blocked career path, and (6) low self esteem. Yes, abstinence prevents many headaches.

It's really sad that the mother (age 21, no less!) had up to nine months to learn the law but didn't.

A "man" calls 911/the police and a woman named Holly is arrested. What's the connection that leads one to the other without both under scrutiny?

She should be hanged at dawn.

We have "safe haven" laws in California. In the first three days after birth, take your newborn to any firehouse or hospital and WALK AWAY. It's that simple. No questions, no cops, no murder.

Callous Bitch.

He found the baby and called it in. He is being looked into, however. It may simply be that he happened to make this horrifying discovery. In such cases, someone does usually find the baby. Sometimes alive, sometimes murdered.

The man was looking through the trash can for recyclables and saw the baby in there...
