Congratulations to the Sox.
That ump, on the other hand....
Does this mean the 49ers are in?!
how soon till this gets yanked ?
A totally illegitimate win by the Sox. They didn't win anything tonight. And that ump is a mental deficient. That ball was in the glove AND he called the batter out. End of story. This wasn't a real win. It was a gimme to the Sox. They can't beat the Angels without a moron of an ump helping them. Enjoy your gift Sox fans, it's the last win you'll get this year.
Idiot mods have pulled at least two of these threads.
First Miers, now this. How many more bad decisions can I take. Won't mean much if the Angels when the series, but...
If you look at the close-up replay from in front, you can clearly see that the BALL BOUNCES UP INTO THE MITT A SPLIT SECOND AFTER IT GOES INTO THE SHADOW MADE BY THE MITT BUT BEFORE IT HITS THE MITT.
Watch it. AJ was right. The umpire was right. The announcers need to apologize to the ump on air before the next game.
He was right.
Without a doubt! I can't believe that bad call stands... the Angels were robbed! >:-(
Umps being interviewed live on ESPN now...
The Angels might have still lost the game in EXTRA INNINGS, but this was a blown call and now we will never know. Hell, the umpire called the guy out and then he became a wimp and suddenly didn't know like the 3rd base ump who "didn't" see anything either. Do they think the catcher would just toss the ball toward the mound if he "dropped" the ball. No he would have thrown it to first base. If this doesn't get replay at least in the playoffs, then I guess nothing will.
Living in Oregon, I am not too emotionally involved, but there I was sitting in the local pub enjoying a VERY GOOD local microbrew watching the ALCS. My exclamation of "WHAT!!!" disturbed some patrons and I had to apoplogize. Then they all gathered around and watched the replay. Unanimity here in PDX - LA WAS ROBBED.
I can understand the ump making a mistake on whether the ball hit the dirt or not, but to call the guy out and then allow him on base...
Joe West gave the halos a big break in game 5, now the ball bounces the other way and the Halos whine? And please put those stupid thunder sticks away and enough with the rally monkey (and fill in the "rock sculpture"). With that said, I'm glad Sciocia didn't just blame the ump; the team didn't hit because Buehrle sat them down.
One other thing, an intelligent catcher tags the guy on anything, and I mean anything close; it's just what a catcher does on a third strike like that. Josh Paul made a mistake in not taking a very simple precaution.
You were robbed? What about my Braves?
One more thing, I don't know if anyone's posted this because I haven't gotten through the whole thread ... why in the wide world of sports did the Angel pitcher, Escobar I think, throw Crede a pitch right down the middle of the plate on an 0-2 count? I know the call kind of discombobulated the Angels, but you expect pros to shake it off and still execute the fundamentals, and grooving one on 0-2, especially in that situation, is not good fundamental baseball.
