Game 2 of the ACLS left Chicago celebrating a 2-1 victory. Controversial strikeout didn't end the ninth..

This one is saying OUT.........
If they are going to win this series they will have to score more then one run.
Well, it depends on what the definition of is is... :P
Sound. Umpires are trained to understand the differences between a ball hitting a glove, the dirt, a shoe on a base vs a ball in a glove. At the level these umps are at they're really good, and rarely wrong.
its in the books..get over it ...you LOST!!!
No, he didn't. He signaled no contact (arm extended, palm down).
Then he signaled strike (clenched fist - the same call as any other strike).
But he never jerked the fist back (meaning out).
The clenched fist signal DOES NOT MEAN OUT when done by the Ump at the plate. For the other umps it does, but at the plate it simply means Strike.
Before you flame me, let me state I hate when games end this way. Its lame. Even with a replay, there is room for doubt. Its so much better when a catcher knows his craft and tags the batter.
The ump called the third strike, then pointed toward first -- Piersynski saw this and immediately spun around and headed to first. The ump then made the call again to make sure everyone saw it.
The catcher made a cardinal sin I always tell my kids during football and baseball practices -- ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS play the play through completely. You keep playing until the Ref has blown the whistle or the ump had yelled OUT, SAFE or TIME!!! In this case the Catcher immediately tossed the ball away BEFORE the umpire finished calling the entire play. The replay clearly shows the catcher up and heading off before the ump ever points to first base.
The call was a bad call in my opinion. But in defense of the ump and others, the ball clearly bounces before settling in the webbing of the mitt. As there is no telltale puff of dirt, it looks like the catcher got the mitt underneath the ball.
If you watch the replay, the strike call, which you claim is the out call did not come untill after Paul threw the ball back to the mound and started running off the field. AJ, after starting back to the dugout, realized that the Ump never made an out call, runs to first. It's like in football, you play untill you hear a whistle.
No he already called strike. See post 80.
Do you have the Konerco strike out from bottom on 8th?
post those same two pictures.. the right hand slash.... then waiting to raise the fist until after the tag
He's indicating a strike. If the ball hit the ground the batter can run until he's tagged or thrown out.
Not true. You see umps call guys out at home on a slide and change the call when the catcher drops the ball. The call was controversial at best. If Rowand dosen't try to be a hero in the 2nd, we would have won without this play.
Umps bought it.
Guillen did not step up to bring forth integrity.
Black Sox.
This bahavior marred a great game played well by both teams. Now the Sox are again the Black Sox.
You see, if they go on to win (they won't) they will always be scarred with this.
That is why Piersinski was wrong and Guillen was wrong not to go out to argue, ostensibly, and set it straight.
Excellent point, and not out of the realm of possibility when an athlete knows he might get caught out.
One of them said he didn;t call him out, he called it a strike!!
But he swung and missed -- it wasn't a call.
SAFE!!!!
I say it did bounce. We disagree. The play was within the rules although unusual.
Black Sox -- the liberal team.
Well, I know what that game needed...
