"If the White House spin is that Harriet Miers got the job because nobody else wanted it, it would seem that the White House is at a desperation point."

I think that's a pretty fair statement.

They were getting close last week when they were throwing around the usual liberal attacks to stifle dissent. Now they're apparently just in full out spin mode.

I'd look for a graceful withdrawl, from the nominee, of course, maybe early next week.

I wish. I'm not sure if you were being sarcastic or not.

I thought she was going to drop out by Friday? Now it's early next week?

And early next week, it'll be next Friday again?

I think I'd rather see the circus that results in the Judiciary Committee.

Only if Harriet decides to. Bush will not force the issue.

I've been saying for a while that if she is looking at the current situation, maybe she'll fall on her sword for the good of the party and the administration.

I'm sure she'd withdraw long before so-called conservatives "gracefully" ended their attacks.

I don't pretend to know how Miers would rule from the bench. I'm waiting for the hearings, myself. It would be helfpful to all involved if the people judging her incompetent and substandard would shut their fat gaping maws and wait until they have some actual evidence of intent.
