President Bashar Assad told CNN in an interview earlier Wednesday - before Kenaan's death was announced - that if the U.N. murder probe had any material proof of Syrian involvement, those involved would be charged with treason and could be handed over to an international court.

A UN international court? What was this later minister afraid of? a slap on the wrist?

Syria's interior minister, who ran Lebanon for many years and was one of several top officials caught up in the U.N. probe of the slaying of that nation's former prime minister, died Wednesday. The country's official news agency said he committed suicide in his office.

Shot himself in the head.

Five times.

My guess would be that his suicide provides cover for higher-ups that sanctioned or directed the operation. Now it conveniently ends with him.

Here's the Al Bawaba report:

http://www.albawaba.com/en/news/190304

Might have done it because it was revealed a day or two ago he allegedly was bribed $10 mil. by Hariri when he reigned over Lebanon. And maybe Bashar Assad didn't his cut...

"It is not known for sure if he committed suicide, or was made to commit suicide,"

To put it in PCSpeak "The alleged perp suicided the alleged suicidee".

From # 7

...Hours before he died, Kanaan contacted the Beirut Voice of Lebanon radio station and dlivered a statement, concluding with the words: "I believe this is the last statement that I could make." He asked seasoned interviewer 'Wardeh' to pass his comments to other broadcast media.

Kanaan said he was making the statement to 'Wardeh' to deny a report by another Beirut TV network, New TV, which argued late Tuesday that Kanaan admitted to U.N. investigators that he was involved in money extortion and corruption during what he called "my reign of Lebanon."

New TV had reported Kanaan told investigators that he brought the 2000 Lebanese election law that "we tailored to the measurements of Lebanese politicians loyal to Syria."

"Premier Hariri had at the time given me a $10 million check and another $ 10million check to General Jamil Sayyed," New TV quoted Kanaan as saying in his testimony. "We were making money from Premier Hariri so how could we possibly kill him and close the flow of his riches." General Sayyed was then the head of Lebanon's General Security Department.

New TV was unmoved by Kanaan's denial, insisting the story was accurate.

Possible killed himself not because of involvement in Hariri's death, but what the investigation into Hariri's death dug up.

This guy has been killing himself all day long. This is about the fifth time he's done it.

I'm beginning to think it's no accident.

Of course it took 5 self inflicted gun shots to the head, you have to figure the first 4 hit the mostly vast inactive parts of their brain.

..reminds me of abu nidal the Olympic terrorist who died in Baghdad a few years ago,the last of the remaining....he came down with lead poisoning...and powder burns.

...but remember now....there's no known connection between terrorist and Iraq.
