80% of Potential SCOTUS Nominees on W's List Decline His Offer
Fox News | 10-11-05 | freedom4me

During the 11:00 p.m. (CST) newsbreak, Donna Fuducia reported that Karl Rove told James Dobson that 80% of the potential SCOTUS nominees on the President's list declined his offer because of they didn't want to undergo the grueling confirmation process. Perhaps this sheds new light on the reason why W chose Miers.

You mean when Owens, Rogers Brown, Prior, and three other very conservative judges were confirmed in the span of five weeks few months ago.

Yep President Bush really betrayed his nominees (end of extreme sarcasm).

Anyway, 1991 was ages ago. Nobody dreamed of using the filibuster to stop Thomas. Today it's a whole new ballgame.

I dunno. I don't think the Democrats would try to filibuster a Supreme Court nominee. If they did, they'd get their asses handed to them.

What difference does it make if the nominee is Catholic, Jewish, Hindu or any other religion. Do we need a litmus test about that too?

The SCOTUS nomination should be a Constitutional decision, not a political move.

deserves to be repeated

The SCOTUS nomination should be a Constitutional decision, not a political move.

The decision is made by political people.

Of course Supreme Court justice nominations are going to be political.

Should Bush appoint Lawrence Tribe? He teaches constitutional law at Harvard, after all.

What do you mean by: Do you mean Dobson did not utter the "80 percent" rather John did? I don't see that.

I see a paragraph break just before the "80 percent", but no "John" leading that paragraph to indicate a change of speaker, and the rest of the paragraph following the "80 percent" continues to discuss, in the first person, what the speaker would or would not reveal - namely I claim that Bush cut the list to just the women.

Hey, it should be noted that the last time the DemoRats initiated a "high-tech" lynching they lost. We won, remember. It was a brutal, ugly, nasty, dirty, despicable process but we fought tooth and nail and won. We have a strong voice on the court because of our willingness to go to the mat with the DemoRats. Justice Thomas is a reliable, staunch conservative vote on the Supreme Court.

"Well, that leaves 20% who are unafraid hard as nails conservatives. Damn the RINOs, let the battle rage on!"

God bless you Jim. You didn't put this much effort into making this the #1 conservative site on the web to have a bunch of RINOs take over the farm. Damn if I will yield to them.

I say, fire away!!! It would be wonderful to see some of those pompous windbags put down by JRB.... I know Senators claim to cherish an atmosphere of collegiality, but that tradition has been so trashed by Ted-the-Swimmer, Leaky Leahy, and their pals that it might be therapeutic to have a SCOTUS who could fight back.

No. The real problem has always been the RINOs in the senate. There is a whole host of things that people worked hard for that were defeated thanks to that group.

20% rise to the top, the other 80% don't make it. I'd rather be on top than on the bottom.

I disagree, Duty, Honor, Country.

In a country where military service and judicial service is voluntary, a great many people are going to put their families first.

You have no right to criticize them for doing so.

To MSM and a lot of others, Catholic = prolife. That's the rub. I am Catholic. Roberts was questioned about it too. They never quit.

The whole thing is odd. When Justice O'Connor(woman) resigns, nomination of Roberts(man), so sex wasn't the issue. Nominee Roberts move up and over with the death of Chief Justice Rehnquist and now Justice O'Connor's replacement, now replacement once removed, has to be a woman?

Exactly. That's why this whole story is full of holes. It's BS.

Whoever's advising the president on this needs to grow a bigger pair!!

Its too bad for us that the only adviser WITH a pair has been busy, which allowed Andy Card to hold sway on this one. All the rest are women, not to fault them. Rove was supposed to have been against this pick. I don't think Bush will make this mistake twice. But, if Miers doesn't drop out, he might not get a chance to do it again.

Bush was busy with the hurricanes and Iraq. The staff has to take the blame this time around.

Roberts had to be put in play when O'Connor resigned so that he would be more visible and part way through the process when Rehnquist went down. There is balancing going on, but not simply one for one.
