I think you are spot on target.

Is your Ph.D. in "CS"(from your profile page) or Logic?
I don't think you would make it past Ann Coulter or George Will without a JD from a Top Ten law school. You should just withdraw your nomination in shame.
---
The field is computer science but I did a lot of logic. A lot of computer science has its roots in logic. I worked with some of the top logicians in the world and those guys are pretty cool.
I don't think Coulter or Will are really bothered by Ms. Mier's qualifications and where she went to law school. It's more that she hasn't distinguished herself in her work. At least that's my concern. If you can show me how she has really done something spectacular in the area of law, I'd really appreciate it, as that would make me feel a lot better. For now I am just going to go on faith, recognizing that our President has made such good picks in the past.

His 80 percent number was on the only thing that would be noncontroversial here - the proportion that was male. Pukin Dog said "THE SHORT LIST WAS 5 WOMEN, 3 declined, 1 was disqualified on her history, and Miers was left holding the trophy."
That's 80% fallout on a 5 item list.

Karl Rove is the President's political advisor, and as such will say (or not say) whatever it takes to get the President's "political" agenda moved forward. The SCOTUS nomination should be a Constitutional decision, not a political move.
Gee, this almost makes the Lefties claims of "Karl Rove is President Bush's brain" seem half true.

When we have a thread talking about infantry combat I'll be sure to remember that. In the mean time you are off topic and weird.

That's one heck of a website/blog. Do you know that the writer predicted in 2004 that ROBERTS would replace Rehnquist?
Bookmarked.

Damn the RINOs is right. If Bush was the leader we should have, he would have come right out and explained the situation, named the offending Senators, and then declared total war against them. Instead of most of the conservative movement in the nation turning against Bush, he would have had them as footsoldiers in his war against the RINOs and the evil Dems who are destroying our nation. Exactly. The real heck of it is that if that path was the one taken, we would have more than likely had a much more unified front.
I do have one point of disagreement with you, though- I don't think there is a clear majority in the movement one way or the other on this one. That is why I think things are so nasty over this.

Jeff Sessions would be my pick, but he or any other Senator needs to be saved for when a liberal Justice leaves. THAT is the ultimate "nucular" option -- let's see the Senate filibuster one of their own!
They wouldn't, and even Rick Santorum would most likely receive unanimous consent.
I suggest Santorum because he's a young lawyer and is very passionate and out spoken about the Constitution, and he's probably going to lose his re-election anyways. He would be bullet-proof in fellow Pennsylvanian Spector's Judiciary Committee.
I suggest Cornyn because he sat on the Texas Supreme Court for 7 years.

They were afraid she would not be submissive and that she just might fire back at idiots like Kennedy, Biden and maybe even Specter.

Notice how he used the word cut: He also made it clear that the President was looking for a certain kind of candidate, namely a woman to replace Justice OConnor. And you can imagine what that did to the short list. That cut it ... That cut it by 80 percent right there.
I think it was Bush's intent to nominate HM to the second vacancy right from the beginning. Posted this to a thread yesterday:
About two weeks ago [prior to 4 October 2005], White House Chief of Staff Andrew H. Card Jr. told presidential counsel Harriet Miers to add another name to the Supreme Court selection process she was leading. The new candidate: Harriet Miers.
"What do you mean me?" she asked, according to a colleague.
[. . .]
In fact, senior administration officials said yesterday, Bush had Miers in mind for the court for two months without telling her. Shortly after nominating John G. Roberts Jr. in July for the first opening on the court, the officials said, Bush and Card began discussing Miers to fill the next vacancy that opened. Card even launched a secret vetting process last summer to investigate Miers -- assigning her own deputy to do the digging behind her back.

It's long been known (and promised) that we were going to send up a conservative (that means pro-life) nominee in the mold of a Scalia. There is absolutely no excuse not to do so now. Who cares how bloody the Senate battles may get. If there's no woman who wants the job, then I'm sure there are plenty of qualified men. Somebody up there really screwed the pooch on this one.
Whoever's advising the president on this needs to grow a bigger pair!!
To: counterpunch
And I like Sessions because the 'Rats denied him a vote long ago! Doesn't matter, though, any of those work for me -- as long as we save it until a liberal Justice retires.
