I'm sure the Nobel Peace Prize can still be awarded to him posthumously.....
To: calcowgirl
Any "good" he has done is far outweighed by his past with the crips.

"Today the U.S. Supreme Court has said in its ruling essentially that it is OK for a white prosecutor to kick all of the African Americans off of a jury." If he was innocent then she'd be saying "today is a sad day. An innocent man has been condemned to death". Instead she says it's a sad day because of some racial issue involving jury selection. Doesn't sound like she's all that convinced of his innocence.

He was condemned for killing four people in 1981 and claims jailhouse informants fabricated testimony that he confessed to the murders. The testimony of four jailbirds regarding a supposed confession (to them) while in prison is hellishly thin to hang somebody over.
There are three thing I'd have to have before I'd ever feel good about capital punishment anymore:
- The criteria has to be beyond any doubt whatsoever. Beyond a "reasonable doubt" just doesn't cut it for capital punishment; you can't unhang somebody when you screw up.
- The person has to represent a continuing threat to the public should he ever escape or otherwise get out.
- The present adversarial system of justice would have to be scrapped in favor of an inquisitorial system in which the common incentive for all parties involved would be to arrive at the truth and facts of the matter.
This case clearly doesn't pass muster on any of those conditions.

Williams has been nominated five times for a Nobel Peace Prize and four times for the Nobel Prize for literature... By whom?

Dee Oh Double Gee ain't gonna be too happy about this.
Nonetheless, hooray for the Supreme Court!

Mr. Williams' entire appeal in a nutshell:
Maintain innocence in the brutal slayings that everyone knows he committed. He can't possibly be guilty because everyone's a racist. Some left-wing legislator in Switzerland loves his children's books and nominated him for the Nobel Peace Prize, so if we execute him we'd be executing a genius. Winnie Mandela visited him in prison. Jamie Foxx made a movie about him that Winnie even played a part in. Tookie became Christ-like in prison, so killing him makes us all Pontius Pilate. Did I mention that Winnie Mandela visited him? You're all racists. Thank you very much.

High court says execute Crips founder (Stanley "Tookie" Williams)Just for the record, the AP and San Diego Union have not let an opportunity go by not to put unuttered words in the mouths of others. That is not what the SC said. They simply denied cert. for review. Period.

He should be executed for the Nobel Peace Prize nomination alone, on principle.

"Last year, "Redemption: The Stan Tookie Williams Story" aired on television, prompting thousands of e-mail messages to Williams from young gang members who said his life story helped them turn their lives around."
That's good. But if he hadn't STARTED the gangs...perhaps these people wouldn't have had to TURN THEIR LIVES AROUND!
