Man Shot Trying to Hijack a Train-Armed with bow & arrow-seized freight train in Montclair, CA

Armed with a bow and arrow, he's arrested after seizing a freight engine in Montclair, police say.

A man armed with a bow and arrow who commandeered a Union Pacific freight train stopped in Montclair on Sunday night was shot and wounded by police, authorities said.

Juventino Vallejo-Camerena, 43, of Pomona climbed onto one of the train's two locomotives about 10:45 p.m. and threatened the two crew members with a bow and arrow, Union Pacific spokesman Mark Davis said.

The engineer and conductor fled the train, which was stopped at a signal, and cut off fuel to the engine with an emergency button outside the cab. They were not harmed, Davis said.

Alone in the cab, Vallejo-Camerena refused to drop his bow and arrow after Montclair police officers ordered him to do so, said Capt. Keith Jones, spokesman for the department.

He nocked and pointed the arrow at officers on the scene, near Monte Vista Avenue in western San Bernardino County, and threatened to take over the train, Jones said. Police then shot Vallejo-Camerena in the wrist and upper arm, according to a Montclair Police report.

The attempted train-jacking was "the first time I remember in 25 years something like this ever happening," Davis said. "How many times does somebody come and take over a train with a bow and arrow?"

Both titles are as the sources had them ( and different ), I did add portions of the secondary title ....shortened to fit within the constrains imposed here.

Using as the title :

I do not see the other article show up on the first search result panel.

...3rd-generation Irish.

...and, obviously, the well-bred product of a "fine, Southern family."

Of course, since this is CA, he'll probably be sent to counseling, and will be on the street by the end of the week.

Not before he gets a group hug and the counselors make sure his self esteem has not been damaged!

Since I live in CA, I get to make fun. Out here dodgeball has been outlawed on all campuses because the game causes one not to feel good about oneself! Not kidding!

LOL, and if he turns out to be an illegal alien, President Bush will no doubt give him amnesty, and a job Americans just don't want.

Ahhh, now I understand. You searched. And I would have added to the title myself; using a bow & arrow to take the train is much more eye catching. Most folks use brackets to modify the title when they add. peace -todd

I just can
t resist:
1. Betcha that gives the perp a case of "limp wrist" for a while.
2. Never bring bows to gun fights.

On a more serious note, could this be a case of a would be suicide-by-cop situation?

Cudos to the cops who managed to deal with a risky situation with minimal use of force. If they were in the 'Glades, I'd buy their donuts tonight.

Good example of gun control, too - a wrist isn't a large target.

"LOL, and if he turns out to be an illegal alien, President Bush will no doubt give him amnesty, and a job Americans just don't want."

And let's not forget the free medical care, resident tuition for the foreign national illegally here committing illegal acts, and there are even special mortgage programs so the illegals can become home owners.

Truly, Bush is most magnanimous, exceeding generous, and every inch the compassionate conservative. We should always remember to give credit where credit is due, shouldn't we?
