A person identified as a witness to the placement of three explosives at Georgia Tech is now being called a suspect in the case, according to a spokeswoman for the Atlanta Police Department.
Georgia Tech Police investigators took the so-called witness in for questioning early Tuesday morning, the spokeswoman said. During the course of their interview, they changed their characterization from witness to suspect.
Three explosive devices were found in a courtyard between two Georgia Tech dormitories on the East Campus Monday morning. One of the devices exploded, injuring the grounds worker who found them inside a plastic bag. Two other devices were detonated by a bomb squad.
The custodian suffered ringing to the ears and was treated at a local hospital. The events led to a temporary evacuation of 100 students from their dormitories.
"It is a terrorist act at this point and depending on the outcome of the investigation it potentially could become a federal violation as well," Major C.W. Moss of the Atlanta Police Department said Monday.
The explosives were made up of chemicals placed inside plastic bottles and could have seriously injured someone, officials said. Numerous agencies were on the Georgia Tech campus to help in the investigation.
"It will be a joint investigation between the Atlanta Police Department, the Georgia Tech Police Department, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, the FBI and the Joint Terrorism Task Force. Every possible lead will be followed," said Major Moss.
Suspect in yesterday's GA Tech case
Stolen jet found in Lawrenceville at Gwinnett Airport
SWAT team raids Lawrenceville, GA apartment and finds explosives
hmmm
ping
ping pong
what are the odds the guy's name is Mohammed?
Heh I was going to ask what this particular Mohammad's last name was...
So here in GA it is Terrorism, but not in OK.
Strange about that plane.
Pretty high considering they haven't released the name.
One of those Amish Mohammeds?
I heard Mennonite, not Amish.
I bet his name is Bubba.
What's happening in Lawrenceville?
I'm guessing some kind of thwarted or aborted attack. Too many "terrorist-type" goings on here in the ATL the last two days. Maybe it's all coinkydink, but I'm out of Reynolds Wrap.
ping - didn't see you guys on the list...thought you'd be interested.
Nothing to see here.....
Stolen jet found in Lawrenceville at Gwinnett Airport
Private aircraft theft is fairly widely occurring at small airports...As a pilot and a aircraft owner, I am painfully aware of it....
SWAT team raids Lawrenceville, GA apartment and finds explosives
It was in a sewer drain in a suburban neighborhood, not an apartment...non-lethal device...kid's again...
hmmm
This is Georgia and boy's do like to make things that go boom...I did it through HS and College. Non-lethal noisemakers that are being treated by authorities as "weapons of mass destruction' This is really more of an embarrassment for the Law Enforcement community than the kids.....Not excusing the behavior but a full Swat team roll-out and bomb squad for a plastic soda bottle "bomb" is ridiculous.....
There is not a terrorist under every bed...
This was on Fox News. SWAT teams were on scene...apparently Lawrenceville is in Gwinnett County, also the scene of the stolen plane return today and less than 20 miles from Georgia Tech, where 1 explosive went off and 2 others were found.
"Police in Gwinnett County were carefully investigating possible explosives found in a storm drain in the 700 block of Carriage Lane in Lawrenceville.
The location is off of New Hope Road in the Twin Ridge Forest subdivision. 11Alive.Com will post more details as they become available."

Which branch of law enforcement are you with and can you give us the name of the suspect arrested today regarding the Georgia Tech incident.
If this is a student prank (and I think it is) then they ought to hammer his butt. Also, I saw where the grounds keeper suffered damage to his hearing and burns on his hands. Hope he sues the crap out of someone.
