COVINGTON, Louisiana (Reuters) - First lady Laura Bush joined her husband in defending his nominee to the U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday and said it was possible some critics were being sexist in their opposition to Harriet Miers.
"That's possible, I think that's possible," Mrs. Bush said when asked on NBC's "Today Show" whether criticism that Miers lacked intellectual heft were sexist in nature. She said Miers' accomplishments as a lawyer were a role model to young women.

Mrs. Bush, who had publicly supported the nomination of a woman to the high court, noted that Miers had been president of the Texas Bar Association.
"I know Harriet well, I know how accomplished she is, I know how many times she's broken the glass ceiling herself. She is a role model for young women around our country," she said.
A spade should be called a spade.
So typical of the hyperbole of the anti-Miers brigade (sidenote: No surprise Rush kicks off his show taking on Laura Bush), Lauer asked her about a current theory out there about sexism tinging the criticism of the Miers nomination and she replies it's possible.
That's not even remotely "thrashing" and it's not making a charge.
Make sure you add Rush Limbaugh to your list of "extremists."
Along with Laura Ingraham.
So this is the route Bush wants to take--an outright assault on conservatives. This is extremely disappointing and should be a wake up call for the Bush bots.

I usually ignore some peoples' shrill commentary and falsehoods on this forum. However, when you try to join each thread and start bashing people who disagree with the president's actions, expect to called on both the hero worship and the lies.
There should be no women on the Supreme Court.

Any reasonable thinker could construe L Bush's statements this morning as calling those who oppose Miers as sexists.
Harriet Miers ran the Texas Lottery Commission.
She was put in there to clean out corruption and she did.
More than most members of the House of Representatives have accomplished.

I am eminently reasonable and just heard them again. She said it's possible there's some sexism and she's right. How else to classify coffee serving cracks and calling Miers a cleaning lady and minimizing her real accomplishments.
Just as any reasonable thinker could understand what she really said, that it is merely possible. You are trying to make a mountain out of a mole hill.

To answer your two questions, Yes, and Yes. In your cases, sex was part of the equation. As soon as you say "only a male" or "only a female" you open the door as sexist.
Technically the guy I just saw cross the street could "possibly" be a serial killer.
And I'm sure he'd take issue with me if I said it to his face.
L Bush was quick to answer that it was "possible" the anti-Miers crowd is sexist.
She didn't say it by accident, and the implication was abundantly clear.

It isn't???? She could have answered with a "Don't be ridiculous, Lauer. These are the same people who are rooting for Janice Rogers Brown, Edith Clements, and Priscilla Brown. Sexism has nothing to do with it." Yet she chose not to.....hmmmm.....WHY?
Then you don't know conservatives, the majority of whom would have most preferred Janice Rogers Brown, even over Roberts, BTW.
Ignoring the derogatory comments made about Miers that I've pointed out and that make the point shows you are in deep denial.
Nobody is calling the critics sexists, per se, but the critics have reached to sexist stereotypes in order to belittle her. And that's just an unpleasant fact. Deal with it.
