I hope that I won't become a "Harriet's Harrier" before she gets to speak for herself at her hearings.
The operative statement in the article:
"It is true; President George W. Bush has nominated some of the finest people ever to serve on the federal judiciary. And Bush says Harriet Miers was responsible for finding many of those judicial nominees. The president says, "She knows what I want in a federal judge."
I've got news for good conservatives who are disagreeing with PresBush on this one. Get over it. Bush is not pulling Miers nomination.
We had a thread here on FR earlier today called GOP rank and file backs Miers. Aside from the poll here on FR, I haven't seen much other data on how conservatives feel. This is one other example I came across. I think question 2 relates to the erosion in Bush's base support as identified by Rasmussen.
Right Wing News emailed more than 200 right-of-center bloggers and asked them to answer 4 questions about the Harriet Miers nomination. Representatives from the following 79 blogs responded...

Here are the questions the bloggers were asked and their responses. The percentage & number of bloggers that chose each option follow the question.

C) I'm not sure yet. (33% -- 26)
In plain language, this is all just Washington Insider Politics among the Players. Nothing will ever change.
- fight a global war against Islamo-facism, and fight it to win it ASAP
- mobilize the country to fight and win this global war against Islamo-facism, militarily, economically, socially
- secure our borders during a time of war, by building a wall/fence and/or using the military if necessary
- enforce immigration laws during a time of economic instability and post 9-11 job losses
- lead the charge for American energy independence from our unfriendly "allies" in the Middle East
- cut Federal spending on items unrelated to winning the war against Islamo-facism
- cut Federal bureaucracy so that we are better prepared to thwart a 9-11 like attack or prepare for it's aftermath
Should we now "trust him" on his nomination of Miers?
The reality is that Harriet Miers is the best candidate that could be confirmed. Evidently, Bush is gambling on quick, painless confirmation for Miers and desperately wants to avoid a filibuster with the Dims since the votes aren't there to end it.
Trust me does not cut it. Not when the SCOTUS is at stake.
Whew. Another article about the Miers pick. And just in time.
I hear that Dobson will be taking to the airwaves Wednesday and Thursday to clarify what information he got from the White House or other sources about U.S. Supreme Court nominee Harriet Miers. As we've heard, he's faced a barrage of media attention in recent days because he has tentatively endorsed Miers. This has invited scrutiny from the Senate Judiciary Committee where it is reported that some members were considering calling on Dobson to testify as to the nature of the super-secret information to which he was privy. Last week, Dobson told listeners to radio program: "When you know some of the things I know that I probably shouldn't know that take me in this direction, you'll know why I've said with fear and trepidation (that) I believe Harriet Miers will be a good justice."
Dobson now says he spoke to Bush's lead political adviser, Karl Rove, prior to the Miers nomination, although he has not said what they discussed. Yikes! Did Dobson get the word from Rove that he should TRUST BUSH? Inquiring minds want to know. Maybe Dobson will tell us this week.

I think it is fair to wait until after the hearings to approve or not.
Some Freepers seem to think this is enough to guarantee that Miers is a good pick. I don't.
There's two ways to read it. But the most probable way to read it is that Miers KNOWS WHAT THE PRESIDENT WANTS, is a good servant and team player, and therefore comes up with the candidates that fit the bill. That does NOT mean that Miers necessarily approves of those particular candidates herself. She is merely doing the job of turning up people who fit the job description she was given.
That's also, seemingly, how she got ahead in the corporate law world: Doing what her bosses needed to be done. She's very good at that. But what are her own views and convictions? We simply don't know.
In a way, this second paragraph is begging the question, undermining Weyrich's whole point. We've witnessed appointment after appointment go sour. Haven't they all come from the federal bench? Granted, by itself that's not sufficient, but if something keeps failing why do the same thing again?
For the record, I'm not necessarily pro-Miers, but just feel the need to stand up to the public crucifixion until we at least know a little more about her.
"If the Supreme Court appears to be an ivory tower where a Justice is subjected to no pressure and thus can vote at will, you are mistaken. Supreme Court Justices face almost as much pressure as legislators."
This is the biggest misunderstanding of the pro-Miers crowd. He has explained it perfectly here.
