If you're referring to the John Waters pic that Patty was in, it was Serial Mom, not Hairspray. She got attacked for wearing white shoes after Labor Day!

"We are a nation with the most frightened people on the planet. People who come over here just laugh at us."

Funny, how when I walk around the city, people don't seem to be frightened. They seem to be doing business as usual, living normal lives. I wonder who Princess Patti is talking about.

Right. Our high school hosted a group of german exchange students back when the snipers were active around Wash. DC. The kids were scheduled to visit DC and the German parents were freaking out, pulling their kids off the tour and calling some home. The US parents had no problem with the trip. The europeons are so brave they freak out over nonsense like germs, global warming, part per quadrillion levels of chemicals, genetically engineered foods etc. Most of that stuff Americans dont worry about and we laugh at the euros.

Why is it these people are so obsessed with what other countries think of us?

Liberals have a need to feel better than/superior to other Americans, and they like to proclaim their alleged superiority in front of foreigners, especially Europeans. That's why all these entertainers make anti-American statements when they're over in Europe. It's a kind of pandering, on one hand, and insecurity, on the other. It's like the story in the gospel, where Jesus describes the man who says, "Thank God I'm not like other men . . . " That's how liberals think. I even started talking that way when I was in college (years ago); I'd talk about "the Americans," as if I wasn't one myself. It's just liberal BS.

I wonder who she associates with around here.

I know very few "frightened" people....including many "9/11 people," and I can also honestly report that I nave never, to date, found a "terrified" person in my proximity. Surprised, fight-or-flight angry....but not terrorized by any self-styled "terrorizer" of the people.

They are miserable little hoods, and should get the treatment they are getting...hunted down.

I do know of some foreign resident people who think we are fear-driven, savage, uncouth ergo unwise ergo unrespectable Cowboys...but hey, such folks have also been around for a long time.

Beer for my horses.

Thanks.

The mother in Hairspray was Debby Harry.

Now I can sleep.

Yes, I have no life.

Patty clearly hangs out with the wrong people. I'm not frightened, I'm angry. I'm angry not only with terrorists, but with brainless lefties like Patty.

Oh I don't deny they exist, the question is, who gives a rat's behind? In any case, seems like London had a bit of panic going on after the bombings, and I would venture to guess that if 3,000 Parisians were obliterated tomorrow the French might be a wee bit scared and angry as well.

We are a nation with the most frightened people on the planet.

This is coming from one of the few people who have actually been documented to have peed in their panties when the FBI knocked on their door.

As I recall, they didn't blink an eye when they lost 3 times that number in the heat wave last summer, mostly their elderly relatives.

A BYTE OUT OF HISTORY
The Patty Hearst Kidnapping
02/04/09

Press play to watch a video of Patty Hearst during a San Francisco bank robbery.

Around 9 o’clock in the evening on February 4, 1974—35 years ago today—there was a knock on the door of apartment #4 at 2603 Benvenue Street in Berkeley, California. In burst a group of men and women with their guns drawn. They grabbed a surprised 19-year-old college student named Patty Hearst, beat up her fiancé, threw her in the trunk of their car, and drove off.
Thus began one of the strangest cases in FBI history.

Podcast: Inside the FBI

Listen as former FBI agents recall Patty Hearst arrest. Hearst, it was soon discovered, had been kidnapped by a group of armed radicals that billed themselves as the Symbionese Liberation Army, or SLA. Led by a hardened criminal named Donald DeFreeze, the SLA wanted nothing less than to incite a guerrilla war against the U.S. government and destroy what they called the “capitalist state.” Their ranks included women and men, blacks and whites, and anarchists and extremists from various walks in life.

Why’d they snatch Hearst? To get the country’s attention, primarily. Hearst was from a wealthy, powerful family—her grandfather was the newspaper magnate William Randolph Hearst. The SLA’s plan worked and worked well: the kidnapping stunned the country and made front-page national news.

But the SLA had more plans for Patty Hearst. Soon after her disappearance, the SLA began releasing audiotapes demanding millions of dollars in food donations in exchange for her release. At the same time, they apparently began abusing and brainwashing their captive, hoping to turn this young heiress from the highest reaches of society into a poster child for their coming revolution.

That, too, seemed to work. On April 3, 1974, the SLA released a tape with Hearst saying that she’d joined their fight to free the oppressed and had even taken a new name. A dozen days later, she was spotted on bank surveillance cameras wielding an assault weapon during an SLA bank robbery, barking orders to bystanders and providing cover to her confederates.

Meanwhile, the FBI had launched one of the most massive, agent-intensive searches in its history to find Hearst and stop the SLA. Working with many partners, the Bureau ran down thousands of leads. But with the SLA frightening potential informants into silence, using good operational security, and relying on an organized network of safe houses, it was tough going.
A break came in Los Angeles. On May 16, two SLA members tried to steal an ammunition belt from a local store and were nearly caught. The getaway van was discovered, which led authorities to an SLA safe house. The next day, it was surrounded by L.A. police. A massive shootout ensued and the building went up in flames. Six members of the SLA died in the blaze, including DeFreeze.

But where was Hearst? She and several others had escaped and began traveling around the country to avoid capture. FBI agents, though, were close behind. Hearst was finally captured in San Francisco on September 18, 1975, and charged with bank robbery and other crimes.

Her trial was as sensational as the chase. Despite claims of brainwashing, the jury found her guilty, and she was sentenced to seven years in prison. She served two years before President Carter commuted her sentence. She was later pardoned.

And the rest of the SLA? The FBI caught up with them all. The last two members were arrested in 1999 and 2002. Case closed.
