The PLAN is readying the former Russian carrier Varyag for something. These pictures show the exterior painting now being completed in the standard PLAN surface combatant colors, with the superstructure preparing to be painted.
They have been working on the project in their naval shipyards for over two year now.
Google on "Gwadar."
Then consider the pipeline that is going to be built.
Yes, it's small enough to fit through the Canal and since China controls the Canal, it should be no problem to send it through.
Overland logistics and conquest figure prominently in the PRC's plans. Why deal with seaways when you don't have to?
The critical thing many folks seem to miss is that the Shanghai Cooperation Org changes everything. The PRC becomes an extension of the depth of the great steppes. Multiple eschelons of materiel and men .... overland logistics (and, in the Southerly direction, conquest). An Axis rooted in the massiveness of the lion's share of the Eurasian land mass. It is so frightening, most Americans do not want to think about it at all. So they don't ...
remember, the chinese have the plans to numerous Gundam Warrior robots, Power Rangers and GI Joe figurines thanks to traitorous US companies like Hasbro and Mattel.
do you seriously think the culture that build a full sized stone army of 4000 soldiers and horses for one of its emperors in Xian is going to stop with 12" high toys?
we will have to enlist the help of japanese technology (mothra, godzilla, the smog monster) to win against the city-sized attack robots unleashed by the chinese, the battle will probably be waged in the streets of L.A...
Yeah but the TU-95 is such an antiquated design, would it really be a threat? I mean, our carriers know the location of every submarine at sea in their area at any given time. Between that, and land based fighters, I don't think any TU-95s China might acquire would get anywhere near detection range of one of our Subs if we didn't want it to. Especailly given how quiet our subs are. The Sturgeons and Permits are long gone, and I do not believe a TU-95 could really detect an Ohio, Improved-LA, or Seawolf sub submurged, especailly since we would know of any TU-95s approaching their position before they get there, and would likely be able to warn the sub ahead of time.
Fighting in the PRC's litoral could get sort of strange. Most Americans are not very familiar with the area. They picture something like one of our coasts - with low densities of civie ships and wide expanses of water. In reality, with the many, many shoals, small islands and generally flat water, combined with the zillions of potential targets, it would not be straightforward. For example, is the barge with one container on it what it appears to be? Etc ...
Taking it all is one thing. Being able to hold it is something altogether different. In a war of attrition, The U.S. and it's allies would be able to beat China. They just simply don't have the techinology, the training, or the deep pockets to win a protracted military conflict against the West. If we had to, we could get by without income from the Chinese markets. Wouldn't be fun, but we could do it. China would go broke fast if funds from Western trade went to zero.
Lots of choppers. Interesting ...
We'll then Congress will have to declare war!...I dont forsee a Democratic President until 2016 atleast. We may get a RINO in 2008 but id rather see someone with a backbone (eg Giuliani) confront Chicoms than Hitlery.
Have they painted a bulls-eye on it yet?
Well this is all very nice and scary, but how the hell are you gonna float 4000 stone people across the Pacific to LA?
And something else. Nobody seems to ever comment on this. They always say you can see the Great Wall from space, right? Well hello? If you can see both sides of the wall, then it isn't much of a barrier. Sheesh. Godzilla is cool.
I'd judge it to be P3 like ELINT wise and otherwise, clearly inferior compared to other craft we can field. The good news is, the problem of our own ASW gap was recognized and as far as I can tell will be closed in about 5 or so years.
One thing I forgot ... of course the Tu-95 is much faster than any P3 cruising .... but probably not nearly as manoeverable.
We need to assume that in a worst case scenario, it's not China alone, but an Axis with the SCO at its core. Also assume overland moves in Europe concurrent with ones in Asia. In other words, assume, worst case, most of both Asia and Europe are taken early on by the Axis and we have to fight WW2 but worse. Assume also, that very early on, something happens simulataneosly to the Straits of Hormuz and Malacca. And being the dark scenario guy that I am, I also personally assume that nuclear weapons ranging from tactical to strategic, are used to eliminate military targets, including Diego Garcia, early on and that the nukes are from the combined SCO arsenal.
Just one ping.......
That ship is a Navy Cross waiting for a submarine Captain.
Namsman sends.
MK-48 with a topping of harpoon, and cruse missile just for fun.
