I'm not sure what to make of this post. Both incidents resulted in great human suffering.

I guess those heat levees that the French Emergency Management Agency built didn't hold...

Both incidents the results of craven behaviour by citizens who should have known better and leaders who did know better.

"French summer heatwave death count: 14,802"

How can that many people die from a heat wave in France? People lived in much hotter places before there was air conditioning.

How about the Chicago heat wave during the Clinton administration? I believe it was a death count of around 800 mostly poor, black and elderly. There was no outrage over it, I guess because the videos weren't as exciting and there was a democrat in the White House.

Here's what you make of it: the French can just shut the hell up the next time we struggle to deal with a gigantic natural catastrophe, instead of suggesting that we had it coming.

Because in France (and most of Europe) the culture of "Holiday" is supreme. One must take a holiday to not be a low life scum. So families pack up, go on holiday, and leave their elderly parents to fend for themselves and die. Including large portions of the medical profession.

The culture of holiday is so strong, that when a family can not afford to go on holiday they must still give their family, friends, and neighbors the perception that they went on holiday so the lock themselves in their home and make it appear as if no one is home for a period of time.

For some reason he chose to quote a tiny sidebar item instead of the actual column.

Let's hope it doesn't happen again. On either side of the Atlantic.

Well, there you have it. A person isn't qualified to be on the USSC unless they've attended Harvard or Yale. Great attitude. I thought only liberals engaged in dicrimination based on how much money your daddy has. Guess not.

" So families pack up, go on holiday, and leave their elderly parents to fend for themselves and die."

So it's not heat, but neglect.

MSM misleads once again.

That's not what she's saying.

The hurricane count would have been even lower if the corrupt and inept mayor of NO and governor of LA had evacuated their citizens. OTOH, there wasn't much that could have been done to lower the French toll. One couldn't expect all those medical personnel and government officials to cut short their holiday just to save some lives.

Seems the arrogant French were responsible for both problems as a Froggie nobleman rejected his engineer's advice not to build New Orleans where he built it that a much better location was several miles upstream -- and several tens of feet above sea level.

Well, the heat was the factor in death combined with neglect. Had it been 70 degrees, they would have survived.
