On this day in 1975 – Bill Clinton, 29, and Hillary Rodham, 27, are married.

Yuck, talk about bad news. Compared to that, the bombs are good news.

LOL
Maybe it's a "lefty celebration" of their wedding.

You underestimate the ingenuity of reckless youth. Common fireworks with a short fuse, rubber bands and strike-anywhere matches -- maybe a strip of sandpaper to make the matches more likely to strike -- would likely do the trick. Drill a small hole through the bottle and insert tissue paper or a cotton ball soaked with your flammable liquid.

If I built something like that, I'd give it a 50-50 chance of succeeding. But I didn't go go Tech.

Oh I don't doubt that techie types, and are one, could do something like that. What I failed to make clear was that you don't just attach a firecracker to a bottle of something and have it go off when someone picks it up. You have to build it specifically to do that.

I don't know why some want to minimize this affair. Yes it might not have been "terrorists", but it was still a deliberate and serious criminal act. I only postulate explosive chemicals because the thing did go BOOM, with somewhat more force than one might expect from a firecracker.

If one was only interesting in making things go boom, and I am, one can do it somewhere other than in the middle of campus in the middle of a city. No need to create what amounts to a booby trap either.

I see a pattern here. The location!

OU ... "courtyard" between campus buildings.

GATech .... "courtyard" between dorm buildings.

Los Angeles ... "courtyard" in apt complex.

Seems they should outlaw courtyards!

At least the UCLA device wasn't right across the street from the football field/stadium as the other two were. Although as another poster has said, it was pretty close to the campus, and about as close to the field as one could get and still be off campus. Looks to be about 300 yards, maybe a little more, from the stadium, as the crow flies that is. Not close enough for damage with what was there, but maybe enough to "make a statement"?

Last Friday, 10/07, an explosive device was detonated by police at an apartment complex, Midvale Plaza, about a block from the UCLA campus. A Google search results in 3 links to Daily Bruin articles, none of which could I access.

I performed the search because I was looking for information on 2 explosions that occurred early Monday morning, 10/03. My wife is a graduate student at UCLA and has an apartment at Weyburn Terrace, about a block south of Midvale Plaza. Her apartment is across an alley from Warren Hall, which I understand is a biochemistry building. She called me about 1AM that morning in a panic. There was an explosion at Warren Hall that shook her bed and rattled the walls. She went outside to find a cloud of smoke and fumes drifting towards Weyburn Terrace. My wife found an eyewitness among the students from all the surrounding apartment buildings who had also come outside. The eyewitness stated that he had been on his balcony smoking, when he saw a bright flash that appeared to either come from the second story or the roof of Warren Hall and then the explosion happened all in that flash. Upon the arrival of the fire department and the police department, my wife went back to her apartment because she didn't know what was in the fumes. After looking around a bit, the firemen and police ascertained that all was o.k. and they left. At 4AM a second explosion occurred. This time my wife just looked outside and went back to sleep.

My wife checked the Daily Bruin the next day and found nothing concerning the explosions. We have since checked the Internet several times and have found no information concerning the explosions. One would think that these would be newsworthy events.

Here are the links to videos at News 11 RE: Georgia event:

a.) News Report:

b.) Extended Video:
http://www.11alive.com/video/player.aspx?aid=44967&bw=

Regarding the rash of events in the last week:
I'm obviously not an expert on explosives but it seems more than coincidence to me. How many explosive devices are normally found within a 7-day-period during a state of heightened alert?

Note: 3 devices found here as well as 3 devices found in the car in East Chicago.

Here is the article about Midvale reproduced here at FR:

The link (which is linked at Drudge) is no longer working - or a least not right now it isn't.

The 3 devices found in East Chicago were also designed to go off when handled.

From the article reproduced here at FR (which is also now "missing" like the Midvale one)
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1498190/posts
"Bomb squad officers sent a robot to retrieve the package. When they attempted to open the package, an explosion occurred inside the vehicle.

Sheriff Roy Dominguez said three explosive devices were detonated by police. "

Thanks for the link. I can't understand why the incident of 10/03 at the biochemistry building didn't make the news. Something that would rattle the surrounding buildings doesn't seem minor to me. I have thought of "coverup" in my more paranoid moments.

Well, there's definitely more than meets the eye in OU, the "official story" is nowhere near what the most rational person would think if they review all the facts that have been reported thus far - especially including some of the eyewitness reports here at FR.

(I feel silly to keep plugging it, but check out my blog to read the summary for OU - lots of helpful links, and I include the FBI releases and Boren's as well.)

speaking of non-tinfoil hats............

Click hear to get the heck scared out of you regarding Bird flu pandemic.

I think that there is something we haven't fully been told about this, but is now leaking out.

U.S Health Secretary Warns of Flu Pandemic

The likelihood of a human flu pandemic is very high, U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Michael Leavitt warned Monday as he sought Southeast Asian cooperation to combat the spread of bird flu.

Leavitt and the director of the World Health Organization are touring Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam to seek their collaboration in preparing for the anticipated public health emergency linked to the H5N1 strain of the disease.

That strain has swept through poultry populations in many parts of Asia since 2003 and jumped to humans, killing 65 people, mostly through direct contact with sick fowl.

Upon review of the extended video (links above) according to a GT police official

1.) the devices were in plastic water bottle type container

2.) found in a plastic garbage bag,

3.) NO FIRECRACKERS

4.) device could be very dangerous depending upon amount of chemicals used

When courtyards are outlawed, only outlaws will have courtyards.

Yes, where are the democrats when we need them to pass courtyard control laws and laws that require strick liability on the manufacturers of courtyards that are used to harm people!

(/sarcasm)

Seriously, this is way beyond coincidence....something is likely going on, but thankfully, not very successfully.

pipe-bomb

This is impossible to regard as a prank. These can kill or maim at considerable distance. Its only purpose can only be construed as a weapon. Plastic soda bottles are another matter: basically harmless, though stupid when left for the unsuspecting.

These matters really must be judged by intent rather than simpleton rules. Justice is not served by blind execution of a poorly contrived rule book.

If you are actually seeking election or are in support of someone who is, I hope you support justice rather than idiotic application of unqualified rules. I would also hope that you have read the Founding documents so that you are operating in the Spirit of a true American.
