"The custodian found the three devices about 9 a.m. in a plastic-type garbage bag, Moss said. When he picked up the bag, one exploded, as it was designed to do when handled."

officials involved are going to err on the side of safety and get in the bomb squad.

Dear Lady, we don't really disagree even here. I am fighting the "terrorist processes", not the ordinary "legal processes". The guys who did this justly deserve prosecution and punishment. My arguments are centered entirely on due process and punishment that fits the crime.

It is the knee-jerk TERRORIST handling of the situation that worries me. Now if it is determined that those guys intended to do harm, then all hell should break loose.

I'd rather have those guys tracking down the ones who do indeed have the intent to kill or maim.

True, but it's sort of hard to determine intent, until they find the guys. Isn't it?

And we still don't know what the chemicals were. Where they the explosive, or the "payload". Some stuff it would be obvious, but other things would be less so.

If this was a prank, why where all three in the same garbage bag? I'd think you'd want to toss 'em in the dumpster one at a time, in hopes they'd explode, with a suitable deep boom, due the effect of the partial containment by the dumpster.

from Gordon Moore  of Moore's Law

While a student at CalTech university, Moore would steer his love for explosives toward more academic pursuits. He surveyed fellow chemistry scholars and found that 80 per cent of them pursued science as a result of their passion for things that go BOOM!

"My proposition was that we should encourage (this interest in explosions) with children in order to alleviate the shortage of scientists."

Thanks for posting this article. I'm glad they are taking this seriously. It's quite refreshing to hear after the OU "move along" attitude.

"The rather be safe than sorry" stance is a shield for the uninformed and weak, not for those who understand youth who seek "out of band" knowledegr."

That is such a crock of horsesh*t. Go back to class sonny.

I had read that story. Since they were "designed to blow up when handled" why didn't they? And why didn't the other two "explode"? And if all three DID explode the result was ringing in the ears of a guy right next to them?

The News Cartel can call this terrorism and give it some coverage but not Norman?

I have some unprintable opinions about Big News--

Hey, those mean Mennonites can beat the tar out of the Amish with one hand tied behind their backs. Watch it.

Ahhh, okay : )

I've made taco salad plenty of times on hot days. It's more like a tostada, and I use fresh salsa as the dressing, along with sour cream and guacamole, for whoever wants it. I just lined the counter with bowls, and let everyone dig in. Catalina dressing and ground beef don't go together.

These jello mold stories are cracking me up. I've never made one before, but I've seen the recipes from old cookbooks. Now I'm starting to wonder if an appetizing jello mold is possible?

I don't think that anything with the word "mold" in it is appetizing. Well - Moldavian sugar cookies, sure - but that's not just mold, it's got avian tacked onto it.

Wait a minute - mold and avian - it's a bird fungus! Oh my goodness!!!!

Ok -I'll admit here - I made an asparagus aspic once - kind of like a jello mold but not sweet - I thought it was good but saw a lot of it in the sink later.......;^)

Can you check again on the "empty" bottles part? My memory might not be the sharpest, but I don't recall them saying the bottles were empty.

There's something about eating jello with crunchy stuff inside. Just can't do it!

My moms fave was orange jello, shredded carrots and coca-cola. Or lime jello with crushed pineapple and cream cheese.

Just in case you guys haven't heard. On Friday, an "improvised explosive device" was found near UCLA.

"After responding to a call made at 11:13 a.m., the bomb squad arrived at 527 Midvale Ave. to find "an improvised explosive device" in the building's open-air courtyard, said Grace Brady, a spokeswoman for the LAPD."
