Wrath of Earle feared in Texas
The Washington Times ^ | 10-10-05 | Hugh Aynsworth

AUSTIN -- Ronnie Earle, to many Republicans and especially Tom DeLay and his friends, appears as the devil incarnate: A rotten, mean-spirited Democrat with an ax to grind. Evil, partisan, unfair -- and not too bright. Here in the Texas capital -- where they have elected him as their district attorney ever since 1976 -- it is a bit more complicated when talking of things Earle. Some, particularly those Democrats who consider him the only thing between them and threatened obsolescence for the Democratic Party statewide, admire him greatly.

I want a strong (but out of office) Democrat Party in Texas. Too much obsolecence and we get stuck with RINOs who make their way into office largely on the basis of "party" alone.

ttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt

I can go there... the RINO part is overblown IMO. Most of them get involved in RINOism because they live in places with lots of germy Dems, no?

In TX many of the reps are actually dems who changed their names to get elected. Rino hunting is plentiful in Austin as it is.

Texas, unlike most states, does not allow its attorney general to prosecute criminal cases at the state level. That falls to the Travis County district attorney. That makes him by far the strongest district attorney in the state.

This sounds nuts! It's as if the US Attorney General had lost his/her power to prosecute to the Attorney General of New Jersey.

It is nuts! No wonder Earle figures he can do whatever he pleases.

Since state government is now in Republican control, I wonder if there's any thought to giving the AG some control over the DAs.

Read the whole article; there's a great tidbit about half way through. It looks like, along with all of his other faults, Ronnie is a closet racist who prosecuted an 11 year old black girl for murder after his minions coercively interrogated her without counsel, without informing her of her rights, and obtained a coerced "confession" that was the only evidence of the crime. The poor kid was put through multiple trials and appeals before she could get this creep's bogus convictions overturned.

I did,ls, I'm the guy who posted it.

He may be a closet racist, I wouldn't put it past him.The article says that prosecution was to prove he was a law and order, tough on crime prosecutor who was running for re-election,IIRC.

I apologize for apparently implying you didn't read the whole article. My comment about reading the whole article was mainly meant for everybody else on the thread, since the part of the story about the balck girl who was prosecuted for capital murder and the white boy wo wasn't, after he deliberately shot his teacher to death, is so important everybody who reads this thread should know about it.
