Great Britain: Ciggie cabins plan in pubs (TOTAL smoking ban, parking-lot shacks planned)

Ciggie cabins plan in pubs

By MICHAEL LEA

DRINKERS will be herded into “cancer cabins” if they want a fag with their pint under tough new laws.

Bans on smoking in pubs and restaurants serving food are now likely to be extended to ALL boozers.

Smokers will only be able to light up in unstaffed separate rooms or cabins in car parks.

The move is being championed by Health Secretary Patricia Hewitt who has won widespread Cabinet backing.

She met Tony Blair last week, who gave her the OK to move forward with her plans.

A health department source told The Sun: “The idea of a partial ban is now seen to be unworkable.

"We want to make sure we are going with the flow of what people want.”

Commons leader Geoff Hoon said: “Most people were impressed by the enthusiasm for smoking bans, which most of the country appears to support.”

Among ministers backing the plan are Gordon Brown, culture secretary Tessa Jowell and trade secretary Alan Johnson.

No decision has been finalised but sources say the Cabinet’s mind is made up — and the PM will not block it.

The food and drink industry say creating the smoking areas will cost millions.

It was feared some pubs may get round the ban by axing the sale of food.

TUC general secretary Brendan Barber said a total ban would “stop thousands more pub and club workers from dying unnecessarily”.

Cig bans proved successful in New York and Dublin and the PM will order a public consultation once the Cabinet agrees to head off any voter backlash.

Shadow health secretary Andrew Lansley said: “We argued at the time that a partial ban was unworkable

  • OPPONENTS of the smoking ban are planning to force a vote in both the Commons and Lords to block the new law.

The way smokers are treated these days, you'd think that they were doing something illegal.....

I used to be able to lose a 10 deck in an hour down my old regular just by splashing the bar staff. It's hardly a one sided chemical assault on innocent clean living workers.

Well, fags are better off being herded into cabins than doing what they do in public restrooms or in parks.

So this really wasn't about cigarettes being around people who were eating, was it?

I don't have a clue as to what that means.

10 deck=pack of 10 fags
splashing a fag=giving someone a cigarette when they're out.
regular=a pub that someone usually drinks at.

What I'm endeavouring to point out is that a lot of bar staff are heavy smokers themselves.

" TUC general secretary Brendan Barber said a total ban would “stop thousands more pub and club workers from dying unnecessarily”.

There is absolutely no proof whatsoever that second had cigarette smoke does anything to anyone. It seems that it just one of those lies repeated often enough that it becomes truth. For hundreds of years nobody was dying by the thousands from exposure to tobacco smoke, now they are.

Yet, jogging along streets where cars and trucks are blasting you with their gas and diesel exhaust, p;us you are puffing in that asbestos brake dust that they drop from their brake drums constantly is perfectly healthy. Never mind all the other stuff being pumped into the air in cities as well.

Of course, this is not to say that they (the control freaks) won't in the future ban cars as well. That will probably come after these control freaks have you on a strict control freak approved diet of lettuce and alfalfa and soy product (even though SOY is shown to possibly make your offspring gay).

What's next? They pump poison gas into the "fag shacks" to kill off the smoking population?

Really, who didn't believe this nonsense was going to happen right from the beginning.

Next is alcohol, then sex.
