Bork calls Miers nomination a disaster
MSNBC ^ | October 7, 2005 | Tucker Carlson

Posted on 10/08/2005 6:01:01 PM PDT by arnoldpalmerfan

A conservative uproar erupted over President George Bush's recent appointee to the Supreme Court. Bush nominated Harriet Miers to replace Justice Sandra Day O'Connor. But several key Republican senators say she not the best candidate.

MSNBC-TV's Tucker Carlson talks to former judge and Supreme Court nominee Robert Bork about the Harriet Miers' nomination. He says it's, "a disaster on every level" because she has "no experience with constitutional law whatever". The nomination is a "slap in the face" to conservatives.

TUCKER CARLSON, MSNBC HOST: Are you impressed by the president’s choice of Harriet Miers?

Seems like 'W' can't do no wrong, even with an all-important lame pick for SCOTUS.

You know you're argument is just so damn lame.

When I found out Bush was signing McCains abridgement of the 1A I was driving to Boston. I turned the radio off and called the White House, my Congressman and my two idiot senators.

I criticise him often for his menatl blcok vis a vis illegal immigrants.

I'm not thrilled with the spending either but I give him more of a pass on that because of circumstances.

I am thrilled with his appointments to the appellate courts and I am cautiously optimistic about Roberts. I have yet to make up my mind on Miers but when I do, I'll do what a good citizen should and let my senators know. Not that makes a hill of beans but I feel compelled to somewhat walk my talk here at FR.

" ... conservative icons ... "?

Do you do stand up too?

Robert Bork is no Conservative icon. In fact no one who opposes the Second Amendment is anything but Conservative.

I would suggest that you know as much about Conservative" icons as you do Ms Harriet Miers.

I'll tell you what. Either way this nomination goes, after it's all over, we can get together and sing Billy Joel's, Goodnight Saigon.

"And we'll all go down together ... yes we'll all go down together"

Isn't it funny how Bush is being treated like the 'POPE" here with his Miers pick? ... all the faith is coming to the fore here. Seems like 'W' can't do no wrong, even with an all-important lame pick for SCOTUS. I wonder how all you BUSH-bots feel about W's efforts to secure our southern borders????? Do you still have the 'faith' there too????

The borders, whether southern or northern, are a different item altogether. If you hate Bush so much please feel free to vote for Hillary in the next election. I am sure she will sucure the borders, bring back the constitution as it was written and support, stongly, the right to keep and bear arms in addition to appointing justices who are as far right as I am. NOT.

Go ahead, all you Bush haters and DUers, vote for Hillary and vote for 3rd party candidates next presidential election. See where it gets you. In the meantime if you have a problem please contact your liberal senators and make sure they vote against this appointment. I am sure they will be glad to oblige!

The biggest problem with this choice (Miers) is that it is a slap in the face of conservatives that have worked for 20+ years to finally get control of the W.H., the Senate, and the House of Reps.; so we were finally in total control of SCOTUS picks. If the dems had this same amount of control, the head of NARL would be the appointment.

The lockstep Bushites are no different than the lockstep dems that approved of everything clinton did.

Both groups are non thinking people. Sad

"Fortunately only a third of FReepers support this abominable pick."

Actually, 30% say 'no', the other 70% say 'yes' or 'need more info'.

These Bushbots are a humorless lot.

Humorless? I see, well I thought my remark about you being the last Dakotan was pretty funny, apparently you didn't find it so. I guess you are the one without a sense of humor! And, for the record, I am not a Bushbot, I am a man who thinks for himself and finds out about a candidate before I make up my mind, which, apparently, you do not do. You jump in and make accusations that you can't prove and scream because "your" favorite wasn't picked as justice.

I oppose Bush on immigration, but I support him on this pick. I have studied her record, what there is of it, and I have found her to be a conservative, much more so than you are from the sounds of your posts. I would put you in the liberal class if I had to choose, because only a liberal cries and whines they way you do.

And you're damn right that I'm demanding loyalty. Bush deserves it.
.......................................................
I could not disagree more..the few facts we have on miers are not supportive of the BUSH knows she is a conservative jurist. items we have on her:
1.signed document in favor of WORLD COURT
2.supported quotas in fire and police depts
3. raised taxes while on city council
4.supported funding for leftist feminist speakers
5. signed document in favor of homosexual adoption
those are facts we know..I just do not want to trust this person with 20 yrs of SCOTUS decisions. DO YOU??

-"The borders, whether southern or northern, are a different item altogether. If you hate Bush so much please feel free to vote for Hillary in the next election...

LOOK, all you people that CAN'T STAND CRITICISM, take A DAMN HIKE. I campaigned for BUSH. Precisely for the reasons why I am so pissed right now.

As far as this Miers pick, I'm hoping for the best here. But, here's the problem, it's the fact that I'm "hoping" for the best.

AND...

If not 'hoping', then those of you who are more inclinded to 'believe', are actually believing based on "FAITH" in President BUSH. Which in itself, is not a problem, BUT with the SCOTUS, it IS a problem for me, and many others on our side.

President BUSH is not the POPE here, and I see much discomfort in hearing many 'blindly' putting so much faith on a person for a DECISION that will affect the entire country, our culture, our security, for many years to come.

This is a DECISION which did not have to come down to be 'sold' to the faithful on a matter of 'faith'.

Afterall, BUSH has been totally indadequate with immigration and protectiong our borders against an army of Mexicans (I am not against Mexicans) or whoever the hell is coming across those borders every night.

I'm sorry if I don't sit as comfortably as YOU ALL and others who are so easily willing to 'believe'.

As for me, I would have wanted to FIGHT in the Senate for whoever would have been the MOST QUALIFIED to protect our culture and freedoms!!!

Ok, bushbot, elitist, sexist, go back to DU. There, now that all the name calling is done for both sides, I really hope this nomination is the right one, but I've got a bad feeling about it.
