Bork calls Miers nomination a disaster
MSNBC ^ | October 7, 2005 | Tucker Carlson

Posted on 10/08/2005 6:01:01 PM PDT by arnoldpalmerfan

A conservative uproar erupted over President George Bush's recent appointee to the Supreme Court. Bush nominated Harriet Miers to replace Justice Sandra Day O'Connor. But several key Republican senators say she not the best candidate.

MSNBC-TV's Tucker Carlson talks to former judge and Supreme Court nominee Robert Bork about the Harriet Miers' nomination. He says it's, "a disaster on every level" because she has "no experience with constitutional law whatever". The nomination is a "slap in the face" to conservatives.

TUCKER CARLSON, MSNBC HOST: Are you impressed by the president’s choice of Harriet Miers?

I cant help wondering how much of the opposition to Ms Meirs stems from the lack of a "bleeding from the eyeballs" opposition from the liberal left. And I cant help but worry that the left, knowing they cannot defeat the candidate, are using a tepid, easily reversible, mild, nonsupport support to cause the more excitable elements of the right to defeat this person.

In other words, are we being played for a fool by Ted and little Dickie Durbin{child Senator}??

It's called employing lenin's useful idiot strategy and it seems the right has more than enough useful idiots.

Now, watch for the stampede of the Bushbots, screaming how DARE you criticise W, for rewarding a loyal buddy with a SCOTUS seat!

Bushbot my arse. When faced with a choice between two people, one who believes the RTKABA is an individual right and one who believes that it isn't there is only one choice, support the individual right person.

And Borks not it. Now knowing how you feel about the RTKABA I can only assume that you are a Borkbot because you sure the hell would oppose anybody else with the view that the second amendment is simply an "anachronism".

Funny how the name calling comes out, aimed at people who have been conservative icons for years, just because they disagree with the Miers pick.

If the name callers weren't calling these people these names before they came out against the Miers pick, then it's simply not credible.

I'm amazed at the wailing and knashing of teeth at the thought of a Texas sunday school teacher on the court. This is elitism at it worst. I thought it was just the left that had this affliction.

There you go. A little self fulfilling prophecy just for you.

Bushbot? I think not. I think though that Bork is pissed because he was, how shall I say it, Borked? Harriet Miers believes in the 2nd amendment, the individual right to keep and bear arms. This is all I need to know. I do NOT agree with everything Bush does, but I did vote for him and on this appointment I agree with him.

Now, if you want to talk immigration then I have some serious disagreements with him, but on this, I agree with the appointment of Harriet Miers, long may she serve.

Bush has managed two wars, a war against a worldwide terrorist enemy, a natural disaster, and 9/11. He has not had the help of the Europeans. He hasn't had the luxury of relying on the UN. He has not had any help from the media. He hasn't had the help of his own Senate. He's done all of those things alone. And you know what? He's done an excellent job. But now all *anyone* can do is pile on.

The attitudes that people have adopted here lately absolutely disgust me. Bush isn't a perfect, but he has had a hell of a lot on his plate. And you're damn right that I'm demanding loyalty. Bush deserves it.

If I was Bush's long time personal gardener, I'd be wondering why I didn't make it to Agriculture Secretary.

Do you have a citation to your claim that Harriet Miers respects the individual RTKABA?

Maybe but Bork has never been an icon of mine. I'll wager one thing, if Meirs fails to be confirmed she will go on with her life which makes her the better [wo]man in my opinion but people that make it as far as Meirs and Bork generally do which makes Bork's problem all the more glaring.

Here, here. You have to remember that a lot of the bashing of Bush on this forum comes from Libertarians and DUers, or just plain dumb asses if you will. I support Bush and am damn glad the alternative wasn't elected, john idiotic kerry.

I didn't read Bork's comments -- just am using it as a place to post Scott Ott's satire, below, which I thought might interest you:

Bush Failed To Ask 'What Would Kristol Do?'
by Scott Ott
http://www.scrappleface.com/

(2005-10-07) -- President George Bush today acknowledged that before appointing Harriet Miers to the Supreme Court he failed to ask himself the question that he habitually applies to such decisions: 'What would Kristol do?'

William Kristol, the neo-conservative editor of The Weekly Standard, has led the Republican outcry against a nominee who, conservatives fear, secretly favors abortion kiosks in shopping malls, and who may view the Constitution as metaphorical poetry.

The president, who wears a WWKD reminder bracelet, said, "I guess I got caught up in the moment, and tempted by the allure of appointing a justice who actually speaks in language I can understand."

Upon hearing of the president's remark today, Mr. Kristol said, "Acknowledging your sin is only half of repentance, but I stand ready to graciously forgive if the president will turn and follow me."

"Since he's an angry old grump, that makes himwrong, or does it make him a DU'er?"

Well it certainly makes him less than professional. How does he know that she has absolutely no background in Constitutional law whatever? She is supposedly a "mystery" candidate. Isn't a judge supposed to get all the facts before he makes a judgment? Was he present when she was advising the President and other White House figures (perhaps on Constitutional law)?

Isn't it funny how Bush is being treated like the 'POPE" here with his Miers pick? ... all the faith is coming to the fore here.

Seems like 'W' can't do no wrong, even with an all-important lame pick for SCOTUS.

I wonder how all you BUSH-bots feel about W's efforts to secure our southern borders????? Do you still have the 'faith' there too????

Every time I want to envision a government in chaos (excluding the Blanco-Nagin duet, a perfect example), I try to imagine Gore and Kerry as president and veep. Trouble is, in the Theater of My Mind, neither of them will ever give way to the other so that one can lead and the other be VP.
