Clinton aides battle Freeh over '60 minutes' book

Under strong pressure from former President Bill Clinton's advisers, CBS's ''60 Minutes'' has agreed to read a statement denying an explosive charge being made on Sunday nght's program by former FBI director Louis Freeh, the WASHINGTON POST reports.

In the statement, Samuel ``Sandy'' Berger, Clinton's national security adviser, challenges Freeh's assertion that Clinton failed to press Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah to cooperate with an investigation of the 1996 bombing of Khobar Towers in that country, and used the occasion to ask for a contribution to his presidential library. The Saudis made such a donation last year _ six years after the 1998 meeting.

Berger, who was at the meeting, said: ``The president strongly raised the need for Saudi officials to cooperate with us on the investigation into the attack on Khobar Towers at the time when the FBI was attempting to gain access to the suspects. The president did not raise in any fashion the issue of his library.''

Clinton spokesman Jay Carson said he told CBS's Mike Wallace that he had supportive accounts from five other former officials at the meeting, including those briefed about a private conversation between Clinton and Abdullah.

``The fair journalistic question is why they didn't call and get comments for their story from people who were in the room, such as Sandy Berger, and why they took until Friday afternoon to get that done,'' said Lanny Davis, a former White House lawyer, who tried to persuade ''60 Minutes'' producer Jeff Fager to allow him or another Clinton spokesman to appear on Sunday night's segment.

Carson, who called the Freeh book ``a total work of fiction.''

That's the best answer I've gotten so far, however, it does not explain why they continue to try to feed people crap when people KNOW what they're shoveling. And they know that people know what they're shoveling. (I'm getting dizzy). It does seem they are mentally ill.

P.S. How about a bumper sticker "DEMS = Narcissistic Personality Disorder"
I think it would sell. :)

"I did not have sexual relations with that woman, Ms. Lewinsky." (Washington, D.C., January 26, 1998)

I still think he was indirectly speaking to Monica and referring to Hitlery when he said this.

I'd buy one. But the Dems wouldn't get it.... People with NPD are unable to acknowledge their mental illness. (I have personal experience with the disorder. I have an NPD person in my family.)

Can they not look forward and see there is no future for them?

I think they hope and dream that one day the revolution or simply "change" will bring down the evil rulers, and the future will be bright with the enlightened ones (themselves and their followers) running things. The actual future doesn't meet their ego needs, so it doesn't much enter into the the picture.

Forgive my psychobabbling :) I'm fifty-three and knew a lot of these types in college. I've been fascinated, too, as to how any reasonably intelligent modern American could buy into Marxist drivel and Clintonism. That's what I came up with.

"Former President Bill Clinton has hired a new spokesman, a veteran of the Howard Dean 2004 presidential campaign and New York City's 2012 Olympics bid.

Hmmmmm ... And why did Bill feel the need to hire a NEW spokeman???

I love that the best line of defense they can come up with is Sandy Burgler. That's a little like having Mengele as a character witness for Hitler

Well, with a character witness like zippin' Sandy Burgler and his near
photographic underpants and high-capacity socks, what chance does the
former head of the FBI (which has been known to tap a line or two now
and then) have?

I already ordered my copy of Freehs book. :)

This one should be good!

"What is it that makes these terrible people so special?"

That is an easy question to answer, and we're seeing it all over again. Media protection.

At the time I remember Gordon Liddy regularly referred to him as a "Clinton lap dog".

What if Burglar took, and DESTOYED the documents of Clinton's SHAKEDOWN and the Saudi's promise to commit funds to the Massage Parlor Trailer! It is very possible.

I still have questions about his actions during the 90s: Ruby Ridge and Waco, the promotion of Potts; coverup of OK City bombing; Elian home invasion by FBI fiasco;

Indeed. I wouldn't give a plug nickel to Louie "let's burn them out" Freeh.

Sandy Burglar and Lanny Davis are two smears of feces that should be long gone from our public life before now. The fact that "60 Minutes" would only allow Bill Clinton and not his surrogates to appear on the program speaks well for them, for once. I sure do hope Freeh has all his ducks lined up because the propaganda barrage from the Clintonistas will be fierce and we need something better than yet another "he said, she said" exchange. I also hope Freeh has been withhold some of his juiciest material for AFTER the "60 Minutes" show so that it is not a one-shot deal.
