Brian France is about to face a firestorm. When I go to the race here in Mich. I don't see a lot of confederate flags but the crowd is nearly half women and minorities don't seem to be terribly interested anyway.

He's asking for his fan base to desert in droves. NASCAR has it's roots in red states. Of course, as usual, it's all about money. I think he may end up losing more than he gains.

This oughtta be good. But let me let Mr. France in on something: This "minority" doesn't give a damn about NASCAR. I'd rather watch paint dry.

NASCAR is well on it's way to departing the south. Big tracks of the Carolinas have been kicked to the curb for western tracks.

People I know who are into racing are going back to the local tracks, some of them dirt.

I don't watch NASCAR anymore. It ceased being about racing a long time ago. The fans haven't mattered in a while now. I wonder when it will dawn on them?

NASCAR has a CEO with the last name of France? How far removed from NASCAR's roots can that be?

NASCAR's going hollywood and way too commercial. To use his words "I think it’s a fading image"

Simple solution. Ban all Confederate flags. We certainly don't need no stinking free speech!

While you're on the subject Frenchy, don't they have that mind reading/erasing machine working yet?

France is changing the NASCAR. I don't know if it is for the best though. Many of his decisions (and some of his father's before him) are turning away the ones that have supported the sport from the beginning.
This is just one more. But he has expanded the fan base. We now have NASCAR races from sea to shining sea and border to past the border. NASCAR now HAS "playoffs". NASCAR has bigger salaries, bigger pay outs and more and better sponsors.
But NASCAR also has boring races. Like the stick and ball sports, it has turned into a rich mans club. Four teams dominate the sport, bypassing the rules that only allows an owner to field a two car team. It is becoming more and more like the IRL or CHAMP car series. Only difference being the cars are bigger and enclosed.
Maybe someone out there will start a series for STOCK CARS. They could run them at the tracks NASCAR decided were just too small or not good enough for them.

France is trying to broaden auto racing’s appeal...

Okay, so I took it out of context. (It goes on to say "for minorities and women", but who cares about them anyway?)

I once was a NASCAR fan. I am losing interest because of the overwhelming politically correct attitude that is being forced into every damn thing associated with the sport.

The silly restrictor plate requirements to ensure speeds don't become "dangerous".

Keeping a train of cars in single file for 188 laps at 185 mph isn't "dangerous"?

And the "don't drive aggressively" crap.

Hello, is this "racing", or not?

And the final straw: This "Chase for the Race", or is it "Race for the Chase"?

Who the hell cares, since it effectively kills the last 1/3d of the season by limiting competition to only 10 drivers.

I guess that's a good thing, though, since that silly crap starts just about the time pro football season does, so now I don't wear out the remote switching back and forth from the game to the race.

NASCAR is destroying itself from within, attempting to reach out to segments of society that really don't give a rat's patootie about the sport and never will, no matter what appeal is fostered by the likes of Brian France with his cadre of pretty boys, such as Jimmy Johnson, Jeff Gordon and that Biffle idiot.

I wonder how long 'till Smoke is told that he can't be called Smoke, anymore?

Or worse, that he should shave before winning a race, since we wouldn't want anyone offended, particularly the razor manufacturer sponsor.

And although I'm not really a DE, Jr, fan, I know the huge appeal he is to a lot of folks; witness the departure of about 22,000 fans at Talledega after he went out in the first ten laps of the race.

NASCAR has failed to see that and instead attempts to put him in the background and play his appeal down.

Ain't gonna be no "bad" boys in NASCAR.

The France family will be conducting casting call for drivers in the next few years.

Driving ability will not be important, rather the ability to recite every damn sponsor on the car and a "all things to all people" personality will be.

Oh, and no smokin', no drinkin' and you damn well better not dent the car.

How about this idea: just put on the best races you can, and never mind about what color or sex the fans are?

If NASCAR goes down this road, NHRA will have a big opportunity.

If people knew the real meaning of the Confederate flag, they wouldn't get their drawers in a wad every time it's flown.

Minorities that can't compete on a level playing field can always start up a Congressional Black Racing League.

Maybe they can convince NASCAR to implement Affirmative Action races, Black women get 3 lap lead at the start, White women gets 2 lap lead and Black men get one lap lead at the start and the White pit crews have to have one black , one woman and a midget.
