Meir & Warren (Washington Post published Miers quote re Burger way out of context)

Meir & Warren

[Kathryn Jean Lopez 10/07 08:04 AM]

This is what I'm told happened:

"Miers was asked about Justices she admired. She responded that she admired different Justices for different reasons, including Warren — interrupted by Senator Leahy — Burger for his administrative skills.

Reasonable people could ask whether Burger was a great administrator, but the comment is taken out of context by the Washington Post. Miers didn't express admiration for his jurisprudence."

I don't care for this Miers pick, but it has to make you suspicious when the media seems to be deliberately inciting a civil war between the Republican base and Bush.

Washington Post story discussed here:

Please tell us you're not thinking that just started this month with the Miers pick.

This is about as bad a piece of journalism as can be found, and as all such things do, this one is backfiring. I've noted the past two days that the naysayers are becoming wait and see types and the wait and see types are becoming, once again, grateful that GW Bush is the President.

The left is smart enough to know that they can derail this nominee if they can convince enough conservatives that she's another Souter. However, they're not smart enough to realize when they've gone too far. That's always been their greatest downfall...

I've gone from naysayer, to doubtful, to cautiously optimistic within the past three days...

Many of "the initially disappointed" are offended by the intellectually inferior / not qualified argument of the elitist pseudo right wing media. These people are in the entertainment business, they've neither won a national election nor managed a staff of more than a few people.

The Constitution is not that difficult to understand.

Ms. Miers is taking on the "Underdog" image and most people will eventually bond with her if she performs well during the hearings.

And when the dems hear from their $$$$$ sources on the left their co-operation will turn into a drag out fight . No way they will be allowed to not go against this pick And Bush will have a fight on his hands anyway

Agree, but we'll find out if Ms. Miers has a preserved copy soon enough.

Thank you for posting this. I'd asked on another thread what it was that made him her favorite justice.

I wonder if we'll ever see true journalism again in a big city newspaper.

I admire him myself for questioning how career politicians always seem to get rich, with LBJ a case in point.
