Not more than 100 yards from the Oklahoma-Kansas State football game on Saturday, OU student Joel Henry Hinrichs III, 21, blew himself up in what was initially believed to be a simple suicide. While his decision to kill himself seemed to match a personality friends and family describe as detached and strange, disturbing facts are beginning to emerge suggesting that Mr. Hinrichs had more sinister designs, like perhaps taking a few of the 84,000 nearby fans with him. Despite the absence of a suicide note, there is little doubt the troubled student intended to kill himself. His bizarre method, however, is more reminiscent of suicide bombers than suicidal students. For instance, at least one of the bomb components he used -- triacetone triperoxide -- was the same homemade substance used by Richard Reid, the so-called Shoe Bomber. The stuff is highly unstable. It can detonate if merely dropped, and experts say it can even explode spontaneously. The obvious questions arise: Why would someone choose to kill himself with this stuff, nicknamed the "Mother of Satan" by Islamists, if suicide were his sole purpose? Did Mr. Hinrichs intend for the bombs to go off when they did, so close to a packed stadium? Also, why carry it out as if in imitation of a suicide bomber? Suicidal people of Mr. Hinrichs' age, it is true, have a tendency for the dramatic, and perhaps that was Mr. Hinrichs' only purpose here -- to go out in such a way as to be remembered. But that still leaves open the question as to how he learned to make bombs in the first place.

Yes....I have been keeping up with that blog. Some great info there.
This Hinrichs story isn't sexy enough for them. There's too many "what-if's" ... when all it takes is a little investigative work to find the true story (I mean, really, how hard is that?). Just look at what that Oklahoma TV station has uncovered in the past few days. Newspapers are dying, and they know it.
"Why are New Yorkers given information with which to make informed decisions and the heartland were given lies by Boren?"
*DING DING DING*
You have articulated very well the same question I've had.
That may very well be, but it's not New York City where the "elite" media dwell. If it's not happening in NYC then it's not news. The press will ignore this story just as they have ignored stories about terrorist attacks that were stopped. Why? Because there are no innocent lives lost and an attack was thwarted.
When the next guy actually makes it into the stadium before he detonates his bomb, and a couple of dozen fans are dead, then the "elite" media will rush in and get their bloody victim shots and ask why Homeland Security ignored the obvious warnings and not do anything to stop this from happening. How come the Bush administration knew about this prior attempt and did nothing?
Katie and company want to see innocent blood, and LOTS of it. That's what sells. And if they can blame George Bush for it, all the more better.
Personally, as far as the use of the term "redneck" is concerned, I, myself, would fit into their "redneck" mold. Although, I've got a few buds that fit even better than me. (Some of these guys were "born in a barn" if you know what I mean...) And I wouldn't trade their friendship for anything. They are real and they are true. The media thinks the term is derogatory and looks down on "rednecks". I wear it as a badge of honor and so do my (ahem) associates. Heck, sometimes I even feel guilty being called a redneck when there are some out there more deserving than myself... ;-)

Not sure about the "packed and ready to go" car, but I know I wouldn't have wanted to be the tow truck driver that needed to tow it to impound for the cops.
People keep wondering why the car is still in the parking lot and wasn't taken in as evidence--I think that's the reason. Who knows what might be rigged in it--even after it has been searched and seized for its contents.
No one as yet has come forward to say they saw Hinrichs in attendance at that mosque.
I wonder what the going rate for a suicide bombers' workers comp policy is? Or the OSHA guidelines? Hey if we can beat them, maybe we can regulate them to death like we do our own industries.
Wow, I was just kidding in the above post, then saw this posted under Odd News
Looking for work? Consider Al Qaeda...

DUBAI (Reuters) - Al Qaeda has put job advertisements on the Internet asking for supporters to help put together its Web statements and video montages, an Arabic newspaper reported.
The London-based Asharq al-Awsat said on its Web site this week that al Qaeda had "vacant positions" for video production and editing statements, footage and international media coverage about militants in Iraq, the Palestinian territories, Chechnya and other conflict zones where militants are active
The paper said the Global Islamic Media Front, an al Qaeda-linked Web-based organization, would "follow up with members interested in joining and contact them via email."
The paper did not say how applicants should contact the Global Islamic Media Front.
Al Qaeda supporters widely use the Internet to spread the group's statements through dozens of Islamist sites where anyone can post messages. Al Qaeda-linked groups also set up their own sites, which frequently have to move after being shut by Internet service providers.
The advertisements, however, could not be found on mainstream Islamist Web sites where al Qaeda and other affiliate groups post their statements.
Asharq al-Awsat said the advert did not specify salary amounts, but added: "Every Muslim knows his life is not his, since it belongs to this violated Islamic nation whose blood is being spilled. Nothing should take precedence over this."
The Front this week issued the second broadcast of a weekly Web news program called Voice of the Caliphate, which it says aims to combat anti-Qaeda "lies and propaganda" on major global and Arab television channels such as CNN and Al Jazeera.
Last month it issued an English-language video on the Internet called Jihad Hidden Camera which showed sniping and bombing attacks against U.S. forces in Iraq, and carried comical sound effects as well as laugh tracks.
Al Qaeda and other groups have increasingly turned to the Internet to win young Muslims over to their war against Western-backed governments in Arab and Muslim countries.
Islamist insurgents fighting U.S. forces and the U.S.-backed government in Iraq have often posted slick montages of their military activities, including beheadings of hostages, on the Internet.
FReeper harwood's participation on this thread has led to good things at Fox News today. Thanks again, harwood. Your help is greatly appreciated.

We've had a lot of media attention today - WT, Tony Snow, Fox News, and AIM. FReepers have been at the forefront of creating the sudden media attention too ;)
Thanks in large part to you and many others! Keep up the good work!
You're kind (as usual), penelopesire. This has been a team effort so far.
Thanks to PhiKapMom (especially), hispanarepublicana, LibertyRocks, digitalbrownshirt, Old Student, MizSterious, Rte66, dougfromupland, penelopesire, Lizarde, shortstop (can't find his full id now) and so many FReepers (sorry, I can't recall all the names right now) who have been researching and pursuing this incident, and supporting us on days 1 and 2 (when there was quite a bit of skepticism).
The story has gotten into some news outlets now but we need to continue our work.
You're too kind. Thank you.
Thanks for the info.
